Bail - Your remix of the N24 countdown past and present is excellent - the End Vamp that you added to it, is that an old 24 or World vamp or is it one you created yourself ?

I agree, it is excellent. He's used the pre-Dec. 2003 World bed. I think News 24 should use something similar to this, and bring the TOTH sequence back to basics, 30 seconds max of headlines over a fast-paced bed. This is what grabs a viewer's attention, and keeps them watching, not someone standing in front of a screen monotonously announcing a seemingly endless list of what's coming up in the next hour.

Stuff like that can be left until after the main story. A fast paced startup sequence would go with this countdown much better than what N24 are currently doing

Once you have heard a 30 second countdown, the music will grow on you. We have only been hearing 10 to 15 second countdowns all day and they don't do it justice at all.

My only fear is that with these countdowns I think after a week or so, we'll all be tired of seeing nothing but reporters, reporters, reporters, all over the place. At least with the other countdowns there was a bit of variation. But we'll just have to grin and bear them now.

Actually, the first one I heard was thirty seconds. I've watched the clip from here a few times, and I'm still not liking it.

Another problem I have is that there appear to be clips of that woman who's in the constantly-played promo: the reporter from Leeds who "lives there, so really knows it". Her face irrationally annoys me, so I'm not too pleased with that.

Or the Bflat current World bed?

Would anyone have any idea how long the full sequence actually is? I doubt it's 90 seconds again. It would have made more sense (and possibly have saved money) to cut it down to the same length as the BBC World countdown because, as we all know here at tv forum, they wouldn't bother to show 60+ countdowns even if they had 90 seconds of it.

Apparently, the new one is 60 seconds long, not 90 like 1999-2005.

I'm not entirely sure, to be honest, but it has got the vamp with that extra bit added on at the start (hope I'm explaining myself properly)

When I say vamp, I mean the punctuation that plays before each headline, and not the bed that plays in the background. Am I right in saying this. All these terms confuse me

Yes, the 1999-2005 countdowns were 90 seconds in length, but the new one launched today is only 60 seconds.

I would have thought it is 90 seconds actually. Why would they chance cutting it by 30 seconds, with pres being as unreliable as they are. It was only a week or so ago that we were treated to a lenghty countdown.

I think it's actually very much in the style of Sky News in its broad themes, paciness and - as many have mentioned - "self bigging-up", and I wouldn't be entirely surprised if people could point to Sky doing something conceptually similar in the past, but I think it's been done extremely well, and it's definitely something to be proud of.

Minor gripes are the continuing failure to properly integrate the actual countdown numbers into the video - rather than just a fairly bland box slapped in the corner - and the slightly clumsy end to the music. But these are minor gripes against what is an excellent piece of presentation, and much, much better suited to portraying the fast-paced world of rolling news than the comparatively bland (and supposedly more "inclusive" and "universally relevant") images of people driving tractors, walking around and driving trains.

All-in-all though, bloody good.

Vamp/Bed = Headline music
Thunderclap/Bong = Punctuation between headlines

No, it's now 60 seconds in length.
