why couldn't they use the same font as the rest of the news output - Swis721
Sorry to be really pedantic, and I know it's not quite the same, but isn't it Swiss 721 Bold Condensed (which they also used on the location straps for a very short time) they're using on the countdown?
Otherwise I agree completely with what you've said there.

Well, the 7 in particular is the giveaway to me that it's a totally different font.

I like the countdown and music alot although I would rather think they would have this sort of countdown on BBC WORLD... which is really ashame for me as I only get BBC WORLD and we only get a 10 seconds countdown alot these days and this sort of countdown could get rid of those annoying correspondents and chuck on a countdown like that... it looks more news being put first than a correspondent spewing alot of crap.
i have to agree that this is a lot more pacey and up to date, but i think really they've just seen trl on MTV and thought "that's a good idea!"
I think the corporate idea came as News 24 updated there ticker with "BBC" that to me would suggest when filming started. Its alot more like World Service with all those Correspondents at large. I think it works really well and was about time we had a bit of just how big the BBC is.
Really well put together and executed so to whoever created this well done.

Did you know the idea of interactive tv arose from porn channels, who inthe early 1990's created the first CD's with the prinicipal of been interactive, this then spread to TV Channels and thus we now have ITVi

I'm sorry, but that statement made me chuckle somewhat. The phrase "clutching at straws" doesn't fit, but that's the kind of idea in my mind.
Really like this countdown - previously, the countdowns didn't seem to fit the rest of the presentation package and seemed to have been "bolted on". This one fits much better and as well as being pretty, does give a nice picture of the BBC newsgathering operation.

Yeah, sorry. It was one of them wild ideas flying around in the void. Seems somewhat moronic now. Anyway back to the counting machine.
Oohh yes, very nice - at least it's a bit more relevant now.
And at last the music has had a decent remix - the one before was a bit weak compared to the original so this is welcome.
Certainly makes the rest of the TOTH sequence seem a bit slow though. Although the new countdown does fit in better - it doesn't just end and fade out like the old one used to - this one fits in with the whole sequence a lot better.
(And the titles are hurrendously juddery today. And I keep hearing the wonderful 'tractor-cam' )

Tractor- Cam was in full flow last night, to an extent where Chris Lowe was really raising his voice, before it stopping and him continuing to somewhat shout.
