Asa, can you not just ban this ******? All I've seen from him so far is inappropriate, annoying and insensitive posts.

I've reported him. Wink

Good because that's got nothing productive to do with the new countdown and instead has strayed us off topic.

To be honest I'm surprised that the countdown is being used considering the Pope's condition - I would have thought that they would have just had a longer forecast, then some promos with the last frame held for a few seconds taking us up to the TOTH.

I think it is perhaps because of your anti-religious comments in the Pope's Health thread as well and the fact that this shows that your pointless comment earlier wasn't just a one off.

Get lost you grumpy old man. How you can whirl yourself into such a frenzy over an idle bit of fun! Brat. Stickler. Humourless git. Teachers pet.

Naughty naughty.
I reported you too, for invalid use of the report facility, which is also abuse. Just to show you that you're not in the right.

Nothing wrong with my use of the report facility. Infact, you've abused the facility by reporting something that clearly isn't necessary to report. I reported you because of your rude behaviour, not just in the post I reported you for, but other posts too.

If they didnt use the countdown it could look messy. Most News bulletins yesterday were joint bulletins for BBC News 24 and BBC World News for the first 15 mins of the hour.

For some time now im been mifted at News24's headline bed. It seems to be to orchestral, wheras BBC World's is nicly suited and mor pacy. They used this to announce the Pope's passing and subsiquent News Special played it out and it was so much more better than News24's. IS there any plans to change the TOTH beds now following the countdown?

This is BBC One. Following some technical problerms this evening we can no longer join House Invaders followed by Changing rooms and Ground Force, so instead we now broadcast three hours of paint drying.

Probably not, I mean they tend to bring in a corporate uniform look then slowly kill it by tweaking it until people feel it makes no sense anymore and is beyond recovery...

I take it were talking about the headline beds......

In the sense that the countdown and headline bed don't compliment each other - the titles seem slower then the coundown which is snazzed to ****

Just the whole apsect doesn't work anymore.
I've always said the titles are s*ite and shoud never have been made. The headline bed used by World is fr more suitable. Is there any plans in he distant future for more pres changes?

Agreed, as I said earlier in the thread, the vamp needs to be pumped up now.

But they're made long to act as a buffer up to the top of the hour - it's not easy to bring something as fluid as News24 to an exact close time (ie weather) every hour, so the titles bring flexibility. Trails come in 20", 30" and 60" lengths - so they're quite blunt tools.

Running things to time on a news channel can't be an easy feat, and whoever came up with the countdown was doing some pretty smart thinking when they were looking for a way to pad..

..but Sky have managed it for quite some time now - unless they decide to drop the break, they pretty much always manage to finish at :56:50 (IIRC) to leave time for an ad break, two trails and a 10 second countdown. Granted, it can occasionally lead to rather messy endings and shameless padding from the presenters, but I reckon they do it well four out of five times.

(Oh, and we had a 56 second countdown on News 24 at 0100 today)

Ah, but Sky News have a Presentation team who *hopefully* fill the gaps for them with adverts etc. News24 don't have that luxury, they do the whole channel themselves with, as has been mentioned on here many times, minimum crewing.

BTW, getting back on topic, I feel sorry for the graphic designer who had to type in all those numbers for every frame of the countdown. I bet they've got sore fingers! Smile
