and why does she call herself "maar-ee" pronouncing "mar" as in market, rather than "marie" as in the way normal people say it?

I know!

9 times out of 10, "Marie" is pronounced "mah-REE" (the normal way), and sometimes it's pronounced "marry".

For years, I assumed Ms Ashby's name was one of those two pronunciations, as I didn't think there were any other possibilities.

When I first heard a Central East CA say "MARR-ee", I thought what a snobby poncey-ars*d way to have her name pronounced.

Somebody please tell her that there's no such name as "MARR-ee"! Rolling Eyes

There is Mhairi - a scottish name - which is pronouced Marrr-ee but people with the english spelling who pronouce it like that are just snotty.

Surprised Shefali was feeling the cold tonight!

She's normally got a few layers on, plus a pair of gloves!

Bit of national exposure for WM today, thanks to N24, as they had a camera in the radio studio, trained on John Towers(MG Rover supremo), being interviewed by Doolan, but Doolan only heard in audio(B*****ds!)

(I suspect some former MGR employees would've prefered something else trained on Towers, but that's a thread for the Lounge IMO!)

The full audio interview can be found at www.bbc.co.uk/birmingham for the next couple of days, if anyone's interested.

Excellent election programme here in Central land. A really relevant, well produced programme; accessible to all, but not dumbed down. This programme reminds me that Central can produce excellent, interesting programming. Also, a great presenting team and lively dialogue between them too.
This is what regional programming should be.

it was passable, and technically i didnt spot any mistakes ... but it was dull and had i been a normal viewer i'd have turned over within the first 5 min! it was a talking shop. dry and boring. peter hayes has a personality, i'm sure there are far more interesting ways they could have done it - instead of sticking him in a studio with the old bloke, bob and marie. it made midlands at westminster look like the 2 ronnies.

nicely re-lit studio. titles were a re-hash of the stuff used on itn. all cropped to 14:9 sadly. the only minor highlight was rusty lee's appearance.

and then a very slick "hand back" - LNN slide followed by the itv1 ribbons still.

with all this rover business in the news it struck me, didn't central name john towers "midlander of the year" a few years back? well a quick look through the archives reveals all ...

Laughing

knowing john towers, he probably sold the award to the chinese months ago, along with everything else!

(Has someone been 'having a fiddle' again with the forum, as I keep getting the 'No posts exist yet for this topic', on several threads, or is it just because I'm on a different PC this time?)

Not much to report on WM this time, other than Les 'moaning' that he missed Friday's 2nd episode of Corrie, due to (SH)ITV putting up the wrong caption after the 730 episode(I double checked the paper & only missed the first minute or so!), & inviting phone calls, asking what happened, which some people obliged by ringing in(not me, I couldn't be a**ed !), plus he spoke to Tony Hatch, he of TV theme tune fame, in a prerecorded segment, as well.

I'm having the same problem. The last three pages are phantom. I don't think Ihink I've seen this problem exist with more than one phantom page since the old crossroads thread.

Some of the early posts in this thread from last August seem to have been purged, and that's buggered up the pagination...

No, I split the topic to allow tvmercia be the first poster in the thread so he could edit titles etc. The problem of phantom pages existed before hand.

Have flagged the thread up to Asa to let him know that the database needs sorting again - hopefully things will be sorted tomorrow.
