Thtas nice to see them actually showing a different view of the newsroom.
On the early pictures, wasn't the plan for the newsroom to be coloured?

It just looks a bit plain. I'm still not a fan of the red to yellow background, I was hoping that they would get rid of that.
Why can't we have something similar to the new Wales titles using the ribbon things.

If you've ever seen TRL, well the titles, why could they do something similar with the ribbons going around places in the midlands ending up at the mail box.

the regions do not have budgets for graphics and titles that come anywhere near the budgets that the national news have available. so any attempt to replicate the the national design looks pi ss poor at worst or 2nd rate at best. just take a look at wales today to see that point illustrated. its like the national set ... but crapper Confused

i think midlands today has improved 10 fold since the move. the background is dynamic and interesting. i dont think any other news set has the depth behind the newsreaders that they have at bbc midlands.

and as for the titles ... theyre certainly nothing to shout about, but then they are far nicer than the LDN style red ones.

i'm not quite sure how you would colour a newsroom Confused

Looking at wales titles, they're fantastic, and the set isn't that bad.
Why isn't a budget given too them? And how did they previously manage pre 99, or has the budget been taken away from them?

True the newsroom is great, I'm not sure whether a view overlooking would have been better.

You'd colour a newsroom with paint and accessories like you would anywhere else!

they do have a budget - but (for obvious regions) it does not match the budget of the national news. creating a replica of a set that people are already familiar with, that is far more expensive than the amount of money you have to spend, will produce poorer results than creating something original. is it really that hard for you to grasp the point i am making? also do not forget, midlands today relaunched a couple of months before the mailbox move, and the amount of cash they set aside for budget and design is finite.

i think a studio overlooking a newsroom would have been impossible, as level 10 (the one higher up than the newsroom) is suspended, and i doubt it is tall enough. locating the newsroom on level 7 (which is much smaller) would have seperated it from the other office teams, making for a less impressive backdrop.

I seem to remember Midlands Today been critised for its relaunched before moving to the Mail Box. I remember with something like 6 months to go they changed twice, I always think Midlands Today is one of the very few programme to realise the importance of keeping upto date. last night for example, entering the proramme via the rear newsroom, with its opening shoot, very nice.

how things change though. "one of the very few programme to realise the importance of keeping up to date" could quite easily have described central news between 2001 and 2004, whilst midlands today went through a particularly poor patch between the introduction of the corporate set and when they livened it up with red.

but yes, bbc mids are managing to keep the show fairly fresh, although it is less than a year since they moved.

2 cockups in 1 day for satnam on midlands today, she cocked up midlands breakfast this morning, then again during a report on lunchtime. but i think we can forgive her as she comes across as very likable.

The missing Llew and Jo mystery gets weirder - Llew was on the mid morning bully and closed saying "see you later". We've just had Sarah Jane Mee on the lunchtime, who did a fantastic job.

We know Llew is about, she was featured in one of the stories on last nights main programme where she must have popped into the studio during the daytime to say hi to this girl they were interviewing. Very Happy

Sarah Jane is brilliant. It is getting weirder. Why would a top presenter like Llew, come in just for the morning bulletin?! Something is deffinatley up. I thinks it safe to say that Joanne Malin has gone...

Midlands Today has rather a funny episode tonight.
They firstly introduced the special aston(s) all night. Then lost a report something to do with the sound and finally when handiling to Ms Oza for the weather we heard a rather loud "BANG!". So much so she jumped, then cut back to Nick and Susanne who were in fits. The weather graphics also changed from the usual blue to red with lots of red noses all over the place, then finally we cut back to the desk, where we get an explaination of the events........
A RDN05 Ballon exploded and then "Gavin" pops up from behind the sofa to say hello. Overall very funny and despite the cock-ups proved to be rather funny and very Comic Reliefy.
