Did anyone else catch the MT trailer with Nick Owen at just after 6 the other evening - I think it was on BBC2 (I thought I'd got the TV on 2 so I was surprised it was on there)?

Any way, Nick was doing his bit to camera, and they used the standard BBC1 trailer graphics which fills the screen with red first from the bottom then the top... Unfortunately it made Nick look ridiculous as it "closed in" on just his eyes. Then they boobed by going back to Nick who had a major scowl on his face!

Just shows how rubbish the graphics are really though.

an opt on bbc 2? i was under the impression birmingham wasnt technically capable of that anymore Confused

I asked a similar question a few weeks back !

Where's our BBC engineer 'friend'/expert when you want them to answer a question?

i am not aware we have a resident engineer forumer at the mailbox. i think there was someone on here that knows an mt bod, not quite an expert tho. i was informed we couldn’t opt on 2, but then again, that may have meant we "shouldn't" opt on 2. there are reasons why it may still be possible (on analogue) to opt being as its birmingham, but to say more than that would be speculation.

It is certainly the case that the newer English Regions (South East, Oxford etc) cannot opt at all on BBC2 - remember all the hoo-har during Wimbledon when the moved the 6.30 opt to BBC2... However, I don't know if it is the case that regions which have recently moved to new buildings (North (Leeds), East and W Midlands) can still opt on 2. Does Leeds still originate The SuperLeague Show on Sundays? That's a BBC2 opt isn't it?

Thing is, I was chopping veg (so concentration wasn't 100%) but I'm sure I'd got Weakest Link on, then there was this trailer just after 6 (I assume it was done after the regional headline feed to the 6 O'clock News) then it was into Euro Familly Exchange. Seemed an odd place for it, but I definately saw it! It was on the old anologue TV in the kitchen if that is helpful to the technical bods out there!

well bbc mids have used the bbc two 5.58ish junction for years, with either a rundown of the night's programme "6.30 over on bbc one" or to show a generic midlands today promo. not having the need or want to watch analogue for a rather long time i haven’t seen bbc two analogue since the mailbox move.

the gallery is standard bbc regions issue - but its not inconceivable that bbc mids still have the ability to opt on 2.

He's done a few reports before for Sky News, but I think he's still with Central.

As far as I am aware BBC Birmingham is still the network evac. centre which means it can opt in to Net. One and Two.

The main gallery has got a tiny pres gallery at the back shared with graphics, you can just see it from the public space, my friend tells me they do the breakfast opts from there, but have the ability to opt into either network from that gallery as well! :

yeh, as far as i know bbc bham are STILL network backup. some people have suggested otherwise, but i have reason to believe they are.

the gallery at the back is used for 10.25 bulletins as well iirc. afaik the small gallery is a common feature in the standard bbc regional news gallery.
