awwww gerupta made it into ariel.

its funny how the people who were so keen on the newsroom backdrop, seem so bothered that real people are visable in the backdrop and might be distracting

central west viewers were
treated
to central east this afternoon. i guess it gives us a chance to see what their studio looks like these days. its a far cry from the time back in 2001 when west was still in the dark ages of the rotating carlton star - and we got a glimpse of central east's sofa with johnathon ray
but anyway, thought it was worth capturing with central east moving to a new set in birmingham soon ...

"itv studios"
i know they were "carlton studios" till recently - but why not put "itv central" instead like central west do.

ooh the central east weather map

itvregions.com - i guess itv.com/centralnews is too full of central west stuff for viewers in the east
http://www.tvmercia.co.uk/centralnewseast05.jpg
they apologised at the end of the bulletin to viewers in the west, it was due to "technical difficulties" apparently. interesting to note central weather (east) (recorded in bham) was fine. and id imagine central still east goes through birmingham on its way to leeds?

I'm not a fan of the new Central News website. The old Carlton one was way better and actually had all 3 sub-regions split up properly...
its a very poor effort these days, but then i guess they dont have the staff these days to provide the service they once did
forgot to mention in my previous post, there was no endcap after the bulletin - is that standard practice at central east not to use them? central west always use the itv central endcap after stand alone bulletins.

WE
I didn't see the bulletin, so I don't know what the actual problem was, (The last news I heard was WM's at 12pm!) but this bulletin came from Nottingham, because there was a problem at Birmingham.(correct me if I'm wrong!)
What would've happened a few weeks later, when Nottingham would've moved to Birmingham?
(I'm guessing something knocked out Gas Street completely !)
Neither show could've broadcast, so would we get Central South(logical), or one of the GMG North shows(Is Granada still the default there?), or 'Landon', because it's the ultimate back up?
Bad news. Gaunt's back, (as is Sally James, but I didn't wake up till 9, so I missed her!) !

FA
I don't know exactly why it wasn't on, but it just cut straight from the ads into the Central News Ident, which seemed normal, and then to the east studio, which I didn't think of at first, just thinking that they decorated the studio currently used for CSO, it wasn't until the first report that they mentioned wind damage in the East Midlands.
Then at the end the presenter appologised for to viewers in the west midlands.
It raises a good point as to what they will do when they're both broadcasted from Birmingham. Surely this is the reason why they should stay in Nottingham. It's just another stupid thing to save money for the heads of ITV.
I still don't understand when building the newsgathering centre why they couldn't have made it bigger and added a studio to it, unless reports will be edited at Birmingham, etc, then they would need a lot of resources. Though if they are having editing facilities in Nottingham, surely all they'd need would be a make up room, a studio and a gallery?

is that all ?
have you any idea how many people there are behind the scenes? having one set of people looking over two galleries and studios will save money. i'm certainly not in favour of moving them in together, but its silly to suggest itv have got their maths wrong. in quality terms they're making a mistake, and no-doubt are throwing away the 20 years of hard work that went into making central news east.

That's also sort of an ignorant thing to say on fanoftv's part... sure, the studio can come out of the newsroom, but their gallery isn't just a bunch of monitors and such that don't need special backup generators and wiring and what not... what about an audio room or a graphics room... you also need technical support and such... this on top of the people that mr. mercia has mentioned already.

Well I feel well and truly told off now.
I just don't understand why regional news can't stay regional, surely it's cost effective, but won't it effect the quality of the broadcast?
And haven't they already got all of the staff on? Surely it wouldn't be a case of hiring a whole new crew.
I hadn't a clue how much they had to have for the news.
Plus Midlands Today have managed to do it at the mailbox, it's a shame that they couldn't do something similar.
It's a shame that there isn't/wasn't a way for ITV to sell on the studios to somebody else and keep their news resources and studios, or if it came to it hiring them back off the new people.
Back to Central News West, it's a shame that they've gone done the dogged route. Surely they could have done it before now as they did it for years with CiTV, so I'm not sure how the technology differed.
