The Asia earthquake and tsunamis IS a major tragedy and anyone will recognise that. But if your next door neighbour is shot dead, you'll still want your regional news programme to report it.
Sadly, life goes on, and as the world copes with the aftermath - as much is still going on before the Asia tragedy and that all still needs to be reported. The likes of IRN are still reporting about thing murders and shootings in the UK and even about retail figures, and reporting them in the bulletins. Is this disrespectful? No...
they should have a little respect than rather showing the presenters looking gay.
oh yes, i mean i don't know about anyone else, but i have put my life on hold completely - i'm tempted to throw myself into the sea, so i can feel at one with the people of ceylon.
get a grip. yes the tsunami was awful, but life does go on.
Its a shame you didnt get caught up in it, although you wouldnt be able to tear yourself away from TV would you. But never the less, its not everyday you see pratts on the TV, aka Nick Owen. Not a bad carrer eh, being demoted to a respectless regional news programme.
Don't say noone's warned you about Katherine, now you've refered to Nick as a prat !
Forgot to mention this 'nugget' of technical madness on BBC Radio Shropshire yesterday evening.
They should've handed over to Hereford & Worcester at 6pm & broadcast Malcolm Boyden instead, but we got 5 mins of WM's Jimmy Franks(does the regional network signal go through the Mailbox?), then about half an hour of back to back records, until we joined Malc at the end of a record.
There was no apology from Shropshire for about 25 mins, & Malc didn't seem to be aware of any problem AFAIK.(Noone at Shropshire bother to tell him then!)
My point is that it is sad to see a news programme, rather report on Nick Owen behind the scenes with his stupid grin, rather than reporting what acutally happened in 2004. If hes been on of the major things of 2004.... It also seen the episode of Midlands Today when it was a funeral of a person that was realated to TV... the only person they showed in the church was god almighty, Nick Owen, just because he was there, he had to be shown.

Please stop being so ridiculous. The programme was intended to be a review of
midland
news during 2004, not national nor international news. If the BBC hadn't broadcast it because of the recent tragedy, the BBC also shouldn't logically have broadcast anything mildly light-hearted.
Clearly, the fact that over 100,000 people may have died needlessly is upsetting and shocking; especially as many of the deaths could have been prevented. Yet, life cannot just stop because of these events. If this was so, our society would currently be far less advanced than it is currently because we would have spent far too much time mourning and not enough time constructively recovering from events such as wars and natural disasters.

You've made one big fool of yourself. Go away and come back when you've had chance to rethink what you are saying here. It's so embarrasing.
By the look of that last post this person is not actually concerned about Asia but is more on a personal quest against Nick Owen and his excellent Midlands broadcasting career.
With all this evidence I wonder if what we have here is actually Arati in disguise as a normal moron...
The studio is now capable of 'overlaying' an image on the floor, like national news can do !
Mollie's got the lurgy, so Tom Manners has been doing the Early Show so far this week.
Anyone know where Cayte Walker's hiding?
I know she works on both Goldberg & Doolan's progs, but the 'weekday' shows I've managed to catch, have been conspicious by her absence lately.
Is she off sick too, or is she doing a odd bit of theatre work? I know during the Franksy brekky era, she had a theatre group interest !
(Then again, she could be on holiday !)
Just 'nicked' this from the Beeb Press Office site :
BBC WM announced today that Les Ross will present a new Sunday morning show on the station from 6 February 2005.
Les, who began his career at the former BBC Radio Birmingham, is going back to his roots with his return to BBC WM.
He will present the mid morning show on Sundays, from 9.00am to noon.
Les will form part of a brand new Sunday line up for BBC WM, which also sees Ed Doolan take over as presenter of the Sunday Breakfast Show, BBC WM's main religious programme.
Carl Chinn and Bob Brolly will host the afternoon shows and contribute to making Sunday's line-up one of BBC WM's most prestigious, as all four men have been honoured with MBE awards for their services to broadcasting.
Keith Beech, Editor, BBC WM, says: "We feel very proud to be offering such a unique and impressive Sunday schedule to our listeners and we are delighted that Les Ross, a definitive voice of the Midlands, will be joining us.
"We have been working with Les to create a show that is new and exciting, but that also incorporates variations on some of his most popular features, which many listeners will remember," Keith says.
Les Ross adds: "I always thought I'd come back to BBC Birmingham. In my opinion, you can't do better than be on local radio in your home area. I'm very much looking forward to it."
Les began his radio career at BBC Radio Birmingham in 1970 before moving on to commercial stations Radio Tees, BRMB and Saga FM.
He has picked up two prestigious Sony Awards during his 34 year broadcasting career, and was awarded the MBE for services to broadcasting in 1996.
In December 2004, Les and Ed Doolan became the first regional broadcasters to be inducted into the Radio Academy's Hall of Fame.
Sunday schedule for BBC WM 95.6FM
6.00am - Paul Marriott
7.00am - Ed Doolan
9.00am - Les Ross
Noon - Ed Doolan: The Other Side Of
1.00pm - Carl Chinn
4.00pm - Bob Brolly
So is it 'bye bye' , Michael Blood ?
I must admit I've never listened to Les at all on any of the Midlands stations, so I'm intrigued.
Mind you, I probably will end up missing Doolan, depending on what time I awake on Sunday, plus religion isn't my thing anyway!
3 hours of Chinnie then, assuming he hasn't got anything else on!(Everytime I tune in, it always seems to be someone standing in !)
My visit to the Mailbox is all arranged! I am to visit on Tuesday, January 18th at around about 17:30! Nick Owen's e-mailed to say he's looking forward to meeting me again, as I am looking forward to meeting him!
