For some strange reason, Midlands Today have got a new raised section under the desk and sofa, which seems to have no purpose other than to make the presenters look higher. Ever since the move, Midlands Today keep making changes, first they changed the headline bed, then they changed the closing music, then the astons, and now some tweeks to the set. They should leave it as it is.

meanwhile on bbc midlands they have put the sofa on a strange little stage Confused it looks ... odd.

well, the sports awards definitely took a backwards step in terms of production value this year Confused editing was, erm, crap in places - graphics were ... well, make your own mind up Laughing

few problems on midlands today ...

YAY the lego models are back - peter plisner's favorite transport illustration device
http://www.tvmercia.co.uk/midlandstoday01.jpg

nick hands over to steve for the sport, but nothing happens - notice shefali's sideways glance
http://www.tvmercia.co.uk/midlandstoday03.jpg

doh!
http://www.tvmercia.co.uk/midlandstoday02.jpg

http://www.tvmercia.co.uk/midlandstoday06.jpg

oh dear - having a company's logo covering a huge chunk of the screen is a bit wrong
http://www.tvmercia.co.uk/midlandstoday04.jpg

so steve turns around, looking *slightly* under-lit
http://www.tvmercia.co.uk/midlandstoday05.jpg

http://www.tvmercia.co.uk/midlandstoday07.jpg

nick and shefali do the entire weather link to the wrong camera

YAY its simon

http://www.tvmercia.co.uk/midlandstoday11.jpg

and a botched closing link to end the show. mind you - i like shefali's hair like that, i think she had it done at the weekend.

Wonder how many people were waiting for 'Bargain C**t', as I refer to him at home, then ? Laughing

Seriously though, why didn't BBC Brum handle their own continuity, rather than letting TVC unintentionally balls it up for them?

I gather that the likes of BBC Scotland can delay live stuff to a server, then play back later. (Bits of Newsnight ISTR)

Do any of the newer BBC buildings have the facillity to do this ?

Tonight's WM Late Show is live from the Royal Mail sorting office in Aston, Birmingham.

It's a bit dodgy technically, mind you, because the bloke who's button pushing in the studio, it's his first night ! (He sounds a right camp Taffie IMO !)

on this occasion it shouldn't have been necessary for bbc mids to do anything other than opt out for an ident and the programme - because all but 2 english regions were showing regional sports awards - so you'd imagine network would have left out the next caption on wednesday night. i'm sure their computer in london would have made it clear that almost everyone was opting out for bargain hunt - but they still trailed it Confused

talking of caching programmes - i know bbc bham used to cache certain programmes to servers back at pebble mill - not for timeshifting purposes though, not sure whether that happens at the mailbox.

a gaping black hole on tonights midlands today - and 10 seconds of colour bars in the middle of a report Laughing

i notice all the balloons mysteriously disappeared for the 6.30 programme, and temporarily hidden for the 1.30 - with no mention of the fun theyd all been having earlier in the day. a giant window looking out onto a room of bbc staff eating, chatting around filing cabinets and playing with a remote controlled balloon thing wouldnt have been a smart move ... in the same week the new DG announces 2,900 job cuts Laughing Laughing

the event was, hilariously entitled "what do you do all day?" ... evidently, the answer is nothing.

According to other web sites, Les Ross(Midlands broadcasting legend) has left SAGA, to rejoin WM(He worked for the original Radio Birmingham, WM's predescessor!), but Digital Spy reckon not as a regular presenter! (UK Radio seems to be down!)

Gaunty has been saying this morning, that he's getting the boot in favour of Ross.

Whether this is true, I don't know, but it will be interesting to note that WM's recreating the classic BRMB 70's line up, of Ross, Doolan & Butler.

According to on air mentions, it was the WM staff xmas party, a couple of days ago!

Interesting to see the return of Mark Lipscomb to our screens, reading the news on Central News on GMTV this morning!

Wednesday 15th December 2004, ITV Lunchtime News...

Central News (West) headline insert at about 12:30, the headline strap at the bottom of the screen contained the words "Headline Here" instead of the actual headline! Embarassed Laughing

This was a *very* fast decision on behalf of WM. By all accounts Les Ross was due in for an interview with Ed, during which it was expected that Les would spout forth about his reasons for leaving Saga...

However in the space of a couple of hours, Les had been offered a job at WM. Rumours began as soon as he entered the Mailbox that he was joining WM and by 11.30 it had all been 'sorted' and the announcement made. Les will initially be doing a weekly show... more details to come over the next week or so...

Not sure what Gaunty is on about... bit of bluster we reckon...

Has anyone noticed that since transmission was moved from Central to Yorkshire that the number of mistakes on Central News at Six has increased. Last night there were at least 3 times when the wrong VT was rolled, sound was not turned on or the music was played at the wrong time!!!

Also on GMTV there has been numerous occasions when Central News hasn't even been shown or the opt out was ran after the programme started!

This appears to be increasing!!

What's going on??????
