Staying with WM, it's interesting to note Phil Upton has posted on his FaceBook page that this weekend he's moving into his own place.

(For the benefit of new readers/people who can't be arsed checking the rest of the thread, Phil split from his wife recently.)

At least 2 people are offering physical help!

I know why Phil has been honest over his recent troubles, as he's mentioned it on the radio, because listeners have asked how the family are, when they've rung in, but should he bare his soul to basically a bunch of strangers? Surely it's private between the family & maybe close friends/colleagues?

I've been on FaceBook about 18 months now & it puzzles me on occasion why certain media types let you be friends on appears to be their personal account.

Admittedly I'm 'friends' with both Phil & Keith Middleton, along with Danny Kelly(but his account is supposed to be deactivated after his 'bit of trouble', but it's still active, a fact I did point out to him recently when he mentioned giving up FaceBook!), but that's after you've been invited on air to join, in fact Keith did actually send me a request after a comment I made on the WM page.

Does anyone actually search out presenter FaceBook pages & request to join, despite said presenter not advertising the fact on air?

Quite a few of the BBC Birmingham people we all know & love are on FaceBook, but I'll never request them unless they invite the request themselves. (That's not a hint by the way!)

Does anyone have a view? Do many presenters accept unsolicted FaceBook requests from total strangers?

(Isn't it about time the Radio Times & the people who supply the radio listings to the papers noted it's Doolan on Friday, not Goldberg?)

Surprised Doctors isn't moving yet. I'm not sure what the logic of moving the Radio 2 overnight programming out of the Mailbox back to London I feel that should have stayed in Brum.

They could've kept '5Live Investigates' in Birmingham, as Goldie works during the week on WM!

I predict one day the West Midlands will have a major Broadcasting production centre again, there's so much untapped talent in the area methinks...though I think it'll be years before it happens. Rolling Eyes Crying or Very sad

I think the BBC are just trying to prove their 'North' vision will work by moving so much up there, and once it's seen as a success that justifies the years of planning and the expense, I imagine in a few years time things will slowly start dripping back to Birmingham/London once Salford has had a kick start and is running on its own steam.

I know it's for a good cause, but words fail me!
