I hate the Midlands Today studio but like the national and N24 studio...
And what is that blob in the Midlands Today studio??

The MT studio has an Alien in it and can the presenters sit up straight?

Surely the real comparison is with Central? With its night view of Birmingham (a large black screen) and that strange blue, glowing studio!

Whats wrong with Centrals? At least it looks like a proper studio, and erh I didnt hear any moanings when Midlands Today had they "dark view" of Birmingham when they had it. At least Centrals look profession, and the plasmas aint stuck anywhere where they fit.

Don't you two have some more viewers to lose? x

Horrendous, terribly dated with a background that looks far too busy?

And just why do they need the second big screen behind the sports presenter when the first one would suffice?

At least it's gone widescreen though - about time!

As long as they get rid of the headline sting (it hurts my ears and doesn't fit seamlessly with the headline bed) and change the astons; I'm perfectly happy with the new look. Smile

I'll second that!

Couldn't have put it better myself!

Can't find the answer anywhere - but did we get to the bottom of why there is a still image of the control room behind the set, or is it just to make it look impressive when shooting from a newsroom angle?

Exactly that reason. I went up to it and touched it when we were shown into the studio - it's a mosaic of around a dozen pictures. It's not terribly convincing close up or in still pics (such as those earlier in this thread), but then it's not designed for that - it looks quite colourful and effective on screen as is it's purpose. It's an 'almost real' representation of the real gallery - which is actually the other side of the same wall - in that exact position! If you look closely there's a blurred-out clock in the top centre. Soon, this will be covered by a real clock, showing the real time for those who spot such things...

Also, some more news to clarify a few points:
My Mate at the Mailbox posted:
The TV suite has 5 studio cameras that can be patched almost anywhere in the building. The one by the plasma's is going to be used to do pieces to camera live in the newsroom. This flexibility was first utilised on Tuesdays Lunchtime bulletin where Shefali did the Weather from the roof of Red Peppers Restaurant at the Mailbox looking towards Broad Street (which is actually the terrace area of the staff canteen!) There are three cameras in the Mids Today studio. The 5th is kept at the far end of the newsroom on the set for the Politics Show.

Incidentally the 9th floor viewing area is now open where you can see into the newsroom (but not the studio) as well as a view into the Archers studio when they're not recording and the viewing area into the Midlands Today gallery appears to be open now too.

The Archers studio is the first one you'll see when entering the main doors of BBC Birmingham at the Mailbox, and you'll know when they're recording in there - because the blinds will be pulled down!

Cool, thanks for that - it made sense to me so I'm glad I was right. I looks very effective from that shot, your team of directors up there are clearly very talented people.

Another set of titles was used tonight at 6:30 - have five sets of titles been produced, with one for each day of the week?

It was nice that Nick ventured into the newsroom tonight, with a walk past the three plasmas.

Does anyone know why a really poor quality ident with a really big BBC One logo was used at 6:00 yesterday and today? It's worse quality than the ones that were used at Pebble Mill.

The Mailbox have got a version of Tai Chi rotation now - they must be the only people who now use it.

On a separate note, is there not a rule saying you have to place the BBC logo a certain way?

Confused

There is indeed - there are clear and "strict" rules concerning the use of the BBC logo on the internal BBC website, though it seems that even the very same department that came up with the rules also break them frequently: take BBC Billboard advertising - where the BBC logo is shown rotated through 90 degrees on the far side of the poster...

If the mailbox had rotaed the |B|B|C| in a similar way it wouldn't have looked too bad IMO, but to keep the letters the right way up, but stack them one on top of the other seems very, very wrong!

I would agree but in reality, the front of the BBCs public space looks very different to the graphic and there is no such logo,...

That's a pool of blood on the floor in front of the newsdesk! Good God! They've got a newsroom behind their backs and still they haven't realised that someone has bled to death all over the floor of the studio there!

Someone get a mop! Laughing
