Not keen on how the view of the newsroom has now been restricted slightly and also the 'slight' frosted effect that has been added to the glass... but other than that, a great improvement.

That entire music package is divine.

I think the word you are looking for is dire. It's one of the worst themes he's ever created I think and arguably one of the worst regional news themes. It sounds a lot like that horrible theme Points West used to use.

Maybe a different title sequence to match the music?
(Remember when they tried using the national news theme with a previous set of titles? Only lasted a couple of days didn't it?)

Interested to note Nick is interviewing WBA's Jeremy Peace for 'Late Kick Off' tonite.
Is he after tips for Luton? Laughing

According to someone on DS, it was Jo Malin's 43rd birthday today.

Oh shush. We're all entitled to an opinion! I really like it; I think it's fresh and the polytonal layering in it is lovely. I agree that it doesn't work 100% with the graphics but it's a nice theme. I hope it spreads to the other regions.

I'm not sure what to make of the SET music. The original package is a bit bland but this mix feels too light and likely to grate with repeated listening. Something in between the two would be bang on.

You are entitled to your opinion, as am I. Sorry if it sounded like I was being rude, didn't mean it like that. I just really don't like it. Smile

I feel so privileged:

Favourite online comment on our new Midlands Today set "It's those god awful curved walls. They eat space like a fat person on the tube."

Moving swiftly on, I know they will continue to tweak this for a while, I hope those curved walls get chopped, they irritate me and that sofa looks like it's only big enough for one, rather than two presenters (suppose it could be bigger, if they got rid of the round walls).

I agree that it looks so dark - it is time to get rid of those walls and start with a blank canvas again. It's a pity they didn't when they have the benefit of the window. Some of it is covered up by the red projector wall - would be interesting if they could open it up further by moving the projector further around to the far right wall of the studio.

As for the music, I do actually prefer it. Would be good if they could do what SET do with the bed though - not always, but sometimes the pitch grows slightly higher after each thunderclap - really adds to the impact!

Quite simply, remove the projector, get a barco or large screen. Less space taken up and easy to manage.

I watched Midlands Today tonight and the grey, dark, uninspiring set made me feel miserable. It is extremely DULL!! Why have they gone for a barely lit newsroom and with the real backdrop made to look as though it is surrounded by fog and made the studio appear much smaller and uninviting??

Get rid of that curved weather wall and make it a square studio, buy a few extra lightbulbs, put some red panels in the bakground, paint the walls white rather than grey, get rid of that old curved desk, buy a higher table, buy some proper chairs, reaarange the theme tune and you will have a decent regional news programme!!!

At the moment though, Midlands Today is THE PITS!! Truly terrible!!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

East Midlands Today refresh ?

Any TV Forum Members in the know of any possible East Midlands Today refresh or have they already had one ?

Personally I think the BBC East Midlands studio looks so much better in appearance especially even more so since the BBC Midlands studio refresh on Mon

So do we know wether or not an East Midlands Today refresh is on the cards or not ?

Please accept my apologies if I have posted this Message in the wrong thread, I can't seem to see a thread on East Midlands Today, Once again if there is an East Midlands thread I am sorry.

get rid of that old curved desk,

They did, the new coffee table is a separate desk to the old Sept. 03 desk.
