Well, having seen the captures on The TV Room, I must say I'm quite impressed, the studio looks great and the newsroom looks absolutely VAST. Astons are a let down though, and that Live bug is a bit nasty. Confused

I quite agree. The location aston is even more nasty. Quite what they were thinking when they made it that size, and blue, I don't know, considering there is no other blue in the whole package.

Also die hard brummies will have to confirm or not whether that was the Carlton tower block on the package with the female presenter on the canal?

Carlton/ITV Central/whatever are near to a tower block (a hotel I think), but not in one! Their building is only two (or possibly three?) storeys high!

She's Suzanne Virdee, and yes she is a fabulous anchor, isn't she?

EMT graphics coupled with the MT set would be perfect!

It looks like a relic from the original generic look, introduced in early 2000 - the cyan astons. Sort it out, BBC Mids! Rolling Eyes

just rewound the tape, i said earlier that it was the alpha tower, but infact it is the hyatt hotel - which is near to central's gas street studios.

Those titles are fab, very impressed with it all, glad they've kept the orange in the titles it looks a bit warmer than the stark red and white.

I know it's not possible everywhere but I do like a real life newsroom in the background, it makes a nice change from some awful blurred washed out image.

And as much as we love the East Midlands Laundrette, this new look really is the spin dryer to their twin tub.

3) Couldn't the big screen have a wireless picture switcher? It doesn't look too good having a big black cable disappearing up the back of it.

i think the cable stretches from the studio to shef's weather computer - so maybe a wireless one wouldn't have the reach Confused

hopefully she was perfecting her news travel and weather system ready for tomorrow

are you implying her system is not currently the most perfect thing ever created? Although I suppose that title does of course belong to Kay herself.

Studio and titles are fab, I'll go higher than Squarey and go for 4.75 Kays out of 5.

If it is like most BBC weather systems the clicker is cabled directly to a modified keyboard, and the cable is soldered across the space bar or return key - which drives the graphics system. The clicker is just duplicating pressing the space bar - nothing more hi-tech than that...

Not sure if others have mentioned it - but I think that it is a great move not to shoot the weather completely flat on to the projector screen.

Traditionally projector screens get dimmer if you shoot them off-axis - but if you have a good enough screen and projector and can get away with it, making a feature of shooting obliquely can look quite stylish.

Has Matthew Gull moved over to Midlands Today from Look North Hull? He did a report for Midlands Today at lunchtime... thought he'd been quiet on the Look North reports front....

Not too sure on the new look myself! Changing the theme tune slightly should tie in with a new titles screen. Yet, whilst I was having breakfast before work this morning, they were using RED Midlands Today titles on the plasma in the background, but when I come in from work, the opening titles had the same orange Midlands Today titles as before with a few new pictures.

And what were all those people doing walking about behind Nick's back? It looked as though MT has set up camp in the entrance to Brum New Street Station with people running desperately to catch their train!

Pretty untidy in my opinion....also, unmatching astons etc...and the average passer by couldn't give a toss about MT's new set up, as they so clearly showed in their silly documentary about the MailBox:-

"Do you want to come and see Midlands Today's new studio?"
Joe Soap:- "No...couldn't give a toss - I'd much rather get run over by a bus, thanks!"

As someone has already said, doesn't really say much about the new studios does it now??? Rolling Eyes
