Just did a bit of background research on him (which doesn't mean a thing) - and I see he took over from Adrian Juste in one job earlier in his career... That would fit...
Les Ross has spent most of his 40 years in broadcasting as Breakfast host of BRMB. The rest of his career apart for two years at Radio Tees in Cleveland, has been on other Birmingham radio stations. Because of that AIUI he is a well loved household name in the W Mids. I've never heard him on the radio, only the two clips posted here, but I can't believe he's the idiot he certainly sounds on the Hardeep clip. It is extraordinary though that the interview was recorded, and not live. I don't know what BBC WM's management were thinking by playing it ?
It sounds to me that Les is in a position at BBC WM that he's not really suited to, his style is more Kenny Everett than 'interview/current affairs'. Can you imagine how that true radio genius Kenny Everett would have manged in that environment !
