It appears that James Wright will be doing weekend bulletins for Central, from now on (according to Emma Jesson)...

Was Lloyd Bracey a 'temp', or is he now doing other things on CNW?

Can you pinpoint a racist moment?

I don't think it was racist, but he could have made a better job of the interview.

Hardeep didn't do himself any favours though.

Think Hardeep did very well under the circumstances... (He kept his cool - and I think he did the right thing in calling an end to the interview, without being rude.)

Les Ross sounds like a poor impression of Alan Partridge, though slightly more offensive, less well informed and more stupid. Do people actually listen to him?

les is actually a legend in these parts and people love him for the stupid and ridiculous things he says. the interview didn't work, one gets the feeling that les knew very little about the guy. i don't think it was intended to be offensive.

but anyway, yes, les is a legend.

Someone posted this audio of Les from when BRMB changed it's FM frequency. As an anorak I found it most interesting.

Yep - classic Partridge territory that. Try and plaster over the gaps in your knowledge with attempts at humour that are doomed to spectacular failure.

Did sound like Les wanted to pigeon-hole Hardeep - which is difficult, as he's a versatile presenter who can do serious, witty and sometimes both at the same time.

He can also take the mickey out of himself mercilessly - but that doesn't give anyone else the right to...

No - but it could easily be taken that way - and that is often the problem.

Yep - many "radio personalities" are aren't they... Never quite got it.

Just did a bit of background research on him (which doesn't mean a thing) - and I see he took over from Adrian Juste in one job earlier in his career... That would fit...

i do take on board the points you make. however i don't think you can write off les based on a single interview taken out of context.

on a personal note i've never warmed to hardeep's on screen persona and his appearance on any programme leads me to switch over, so perhaps i'm destined to sympathise with anyone who shares my antipathy towards him.

No - we all have off-days - and I suspect unless his style was radically different at other times, he's just never going to be my cup of tea.

Think Hardeep is like Marmite - you either love him or hate him. I think he's one of the few people who can do serious and witty - and uses deadpan brilliantly. He also has some quite serious things to say about race and the UK which are almost always dead on the money.

The point he was making in reply to Les's glib - borderline offensive - "British Scottish Asian" line was actually pretty intelligent and nuanced, pointing out that irrespective of race, most of us Brits have different combinations of identity and at different times different aspects are important - English vs British vs Southern vs Shires etc. - and that ethnicity is just another aspect to this - as some might say religion is.

It did sound like Les was totally out of his depth - and hadn't been well briefed (or hadn't briefed himself well) Suspect it was a poor booking for the show in hindsight.

Was Hardeep doing a GNS round-up (where he sits in a central studio and is available for individual local radio stations to book interview slots with)?

If Les had done his research he could have asked Hardeep whether or not he'll use the proceeds from his book to pay for improvements in the houses/flats he rents out in Glasgow. Glasgow City Council has warned him they are about to black list him as a landlord because his properties are in such poor condition. Let's see if Hardeep will do a One Show feature on himself! Chris Moyles featured the interview on his show today. It is rather amusing how terrible it is!
