Could today's program have been prerecorded, and then played out by the Mailbox, with people in the East Midlands getting their normal program.

Well, the programme contained stories from both regions, so it's unlikely. If it was specially pre-recorded for the (west) Midlands only, then it wouldn't have contained EM stories, surely?

No, it wasn't shown in the East Midlands. They were concentrating on the aftermath of the shooting and public outcry in Nottingham.

are you sure? this contributer suggests differently Confused

Well the Saturday 5.25 bulletin was in the EMT studio, presented by an EMT presenter, but the titles had been edited to remove the word "East". At the beginning she said something along the lines of "Welcome to a special edition of Midlands Today, coming this weekend from Nottingham". There was a mixture of WM and EM news and sports results.

I was going to say it must have confused EM viewers, but then again, as has been said many times before, I suppose the average viewer in the East Midlands wouldn't even have noticed any difference!

Did it go out in 16:9 in the West Midlands by the way?

the "version" (if infact it was not live) we saw in the west lead with the nottingham b&q story.

Well I saw the special MT here in Nottingham on BBC1 from Waltham, so I've no idea what "Query" saw- unless perhaps (s)he had a look at the bulletin online and it was still Friday's edition, which DID heavily feature the news about the girl who was shot.

Well I'm happy that the London Road Laundrette has had a pan-Midlands outing! Although it must be confusing EMT viewers who wonder why suddenly their programme is back to being called Midlands Today after 13 years!!

It's strange seeing the red LDN endcap with "Midlands Today" on it. Considering MT won't be using that, but will be taking the LDN music...Midlands Today will have had 2 new looks in as many days...we know they like to tinker! Laughing

Is very good of Nottingham to re-edit the titles though...then again Nottingham and Birmingham are still fairly close, and have never been adverse to helping each other out when need be. In fact more often than not..when MT or EMT have had a fault they know about but can't be fixed in time then they'll rather take the other than go for the standard LDN feed. Good on 'em!

By "that programme", I meant the Saturday 23rd October 2004 teatime programme. I was not suggesting that pre-1991 Midlands Today came from Nottingham.

That was where I was confused, what precisely the term "that programme" referred to, whether it was yesterdays edition or programmes pre 1991.

Unless your quibble was that I should refer to pre-1991 Midlands Today as coming from "Pebble Mill". If that was your quibble, then F*CK OFF!

nope, wasn't arguing on that score...

No, because the Mailbox can't broadcast anything yet, if it could play out a tape to air it could do a live programme.

where does Friday's 16:9 trailer mentioned earlier come into play? Could Pebble Mill have been taken out of circuit already and MT routed via Nottingham for the weekend or something?

That's pretty much the way for most BBC regions and they nieghbours. Although they're secretly very competitive with each other Wink there's usually a terrific gentleman's agreement mentality when it comes to helping each other out in a crisis. And on a day-to-day basis many regions will often share stories with each other especially if the story is in one of those fringe areas of coverage. It's also not unknown to share satellite trucks or remote studios.

No idea about the trailer.

I wouldn't have thought that anything is routed via Nottingham at all - all they would have done is plug up the output of Nottingham into Birminghams transmitters all weekend. They aren't just opting out the West Midlands at news time it's coming via Nottingham 24 hours a day.

I expect that sometime on Monday morning they'll unplug Nottinghams output and connect it the transmitters to the Mailbox.

carol hinds presented today - all very much the same as yesterday really. it'd have been nice if they'd used a map for the weather, showing the whole midlands.

don't forget joint breakfast in the morning - and kay presents the first mailbox bulletin at 1.30

bbc one midlands ident was used at 12.30 before politics show.

I thought the EMT studio looked very good redressed for The Politics Show.

Great to see regional news in 16:9 Very Happy (Will that be the new colour for the captions, or are those standard EMT ?)

How come the first minute of the 'Politics Show', from the ident to Jeremy getting into full swing, was in 14:9 ?

Do/Are the Mailbox have/having 16:9 versions of the idents, or not ?

Onto WM, & 'By Jove' Doddy was in town, for the 'Other Side Of' this morning, so it was 'Tatifialious'(sp)! (That's enough Doddyisms !)

(On a minor note, it's a good job Waddo wasn't on today, or else there would've been jokes about his height, & was he a member of the Diddymen! )

Doolan also officially launched the online service, by asking for comments on technical quality.

The general consensus was it was Ok, but a bit quiet !

(The jokers also e-mailed in, with 'comments' from 'Saddam Hussien' , 'Ned Kelly from Australia', & 'Ok on the moon, from Buzz Aldrin!')

Wonder if Mollie escaped with a warning, after accidently reading out a text message signed 'Issac Hunt' Rolling Eyes

(It's a good job brother Mike didn't text in either!)

We'll find out tomorrow at 5am(GB time, for non GB readers, who listen online!)

One final point, are BBC Birmingham rooting for Sarah Manners on 'Strictly Come Prancing', bearing in mind she worked for them on 'Doctors', & brother Tom still works for WM?

(Anyone see the 'Screws of the World' today, to read Sarah mentioning how much she missed her husband, while working on 'Casualty' & is anyone gonna give brother Tom some stick over it ! Laughing )

They are EMT's normal captions since they rebranded but MT will probably follow suit.
