My Insider at Midlands Today says there are changes ahead for Midlands Today i.e graphics, Titles and studio. Hopefuly no Name Changes like BBC News West Midlands or Midlands Tonight / Today.

This has been in the pipelines for months now, since the beginning of the year infact. Should be airing any time soon. I hear Nick cant wait to get his hands on the new desk Laughing after all the current desk is merely plastic, glass and a bit of tissue paper.

Nick first told me of change to desk on October 27th 06 , then I asked him about any changes just after he came back from Portugal, and I asked my contact on Wednesday.

I want their current desk

Laughing What on earth would you do with it?

Nice coffee table or PC desk, I already asked Nick for it.

I'd be surprised if you could fit a computer on there judging by how small it is!

Great! It's about time they changed it.

Why? The current set's brilliant.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it! Very Happy
I just think they need to change the graphics and tweak the set a little.

Graphics, yes I agree with you. But considering any new set is likely to be a typical MT bodge I'd rather they left it as it is to be honest.

To be fair, the screens looking very scratched, and we all know how dire the desk is! The changes will hopefuly bring some animation on our screens at last, besides Nick and Suzanne. Wink

I've noticed that they've finally replaced/turned on the broken plasma on the wall, it's taken them long enough to fix it!
I do hope that the new graphics are better than the current ones they are just too basic at the moment, I look forward to seeing them on screen during the coming weeks. Wink

Well . . . I'm not sure what the new studio is going to look like, but the titles and graphics are definitely changing from this:

. . . to this style:

http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/6/68/180px-BBC-eastmidlands.jpg

And the titles are changing so that they feature the production team working in the Mailbox (newsroom shots, few people in the gallery etc). You know, this sort of thing.

Do you work at BBC Birmingham then? How do you know all this?

Welcome to the forum by the way!
The latest I know from the editor regarding the new look is that it will be on the way from September 24th onwards. Only a few weeks to wait then. Very Happy

Do we know if this is going to see a return to a proper desk, or will the sofa with coffee table type thing continue?

Think the Nationals Desk in a wavy and curved way.
