this week's archive in the mail was from 1979.

interesting programme on bbc one -

10.15 to 10.45pm Midlands Tonight
looks at the news and issues behind the headlines as they affect the people of the Midlands

completely separate to the regional news - which is a listed as 10.45pm. never heard of it, wonder who presented and was a it a weekly thing? perhaps a fore-runner to midlands report?

oh and a nice advert for brmb "community radio is for you!" - with cartoon people on - one of which looks suspiciously like mr doolan, or was he over at radio birmingham back then?

Nah, 'Uncle Ed' was over at Aston between '74 & '82 ISTR being mentioned on various occasions.

It's the WM Animal Appeal next week, so watch out for a strange woman in a white van roaming Brum & the Black Country!

(She's actually away from the 'Early Show' for 3 weeks, because I think she's sitting in for Les Ross the other 2 weeks. I wonder who's sitting in on earlies?

Please don't let it be Nikki Tapper, 'cos she's boring!)

Doolan Dove award for BBC Hereford & Worcester flooding coverage please!

special programme tomorrow night going out nationally on bbc one starring the midland's very own nick owen with bbc yorkshire's answer to pamela anderson, christa ackroyd. i hope she mentions how she lent a flood stricken woman some lipstick ... again.

This is potentially quite a shrewd move on behalf of BBC Midlands and BBC Yorkshire - presumably network are providing some funding for this programme which will help towards the extra overtime needed to cover the flooding.

Well Nick just said that it's Sarah & Michael presenting the show tonight. Probably because he's doing the special Inside Out England programme tonight. Smile

This may be slightly off topic, due to what you are currently discussing but what vile graphics that region has. Aren't they the old graphics? Shouldn't they have been updated not long back..

I have to agree with you, I think what they did with their flooding graphics:

could be worked on with the red colours and they would look loads better!

Saying the ending was rushed was a bit of an understatement

Nick asked a question, the guest started answering and then Nick said 'sorry we'll have to stop you there, that's it, thank's for watching, bye'

i thought the programme was rather good - interesting to note how the programme managed to cover the [by now, almost tired] story from a different perspective. be great to see the bbc's regional teams used like this again. loved christa's patronising tone - she seems to be a self appointed flood expert, methinks nick is not used to having such a dominant woman co presenting. sadly christa didn't mention the lipstick incident Sad

a highlight for me was the woman with the cup-a-soup in the bbc radio norfolk mug squeezing past the interviewee in norwich when he was live on air
