I have to say, MT usually do a good job at faking "live" OBs on the 6.30 but tonight's fake Ian Winter report failed to play - resulting in a pretty, well, cringeworthy episode all round.

David Gregory's report failed to play actualy, and ended up with the clip off the server of the 'live ob' frozen.

There playout is cocking up quite a bit over the past few weeks. Infact its always had its problems. The other day, the pre recorded headline sequence cocked up, and you heard the audio live from the studio. The screen cut to the graphics output, which was at the time, changing background colours. The titles failed to play too.

Yeah I saw that the other night. The colours went through RGB which I assume was each of the component colours dropping off?

Whatever it was, it was pretty nasty. Still, Midlands Today isn't complete without some sort of fantastically cringeworthy technical balls up!

Good old MT.

i wouldn't have thought the changing background colours was graphics output - more likely that they played out the wrong pre-rec headlines and the colour changing was them identing the next take of the headlines.

Ah I see. Thanks for that, it makes more sence now, as the titles are tagged onto the pre recorded headlines, and thats why it obviously didnt play!

evening mail have re-printed another old issue today. this week its the turn of charles n di's wedding, which means a chance for us nerds to look at the midlands telly listings from whatever date that is in 1981.

note the fact that beacon were broadcasting some concert from lichfield cathedral. imagine that nowadays!! you're lucky if they bother broadcasting from their studios these days (as opposed to the networked rubbish that now dominates)

oh and howard bennet had a show at 5.00pm on brmb, how fab.

Wonder where Doolan was? (He didn't move from BRMB to the Beeb until the following year, did he?)

The 206 Party on Radio Birmingham, followed by Closedown at 5pm! Laughing

If you thought BBC Local Radio is short of money now, look at those listings!

Must compare the listings with this one & the Villa 1982 special from the other week(& find sdaonline's RT local radio listing from 1972)!

When did Radio Birmingham/WM stop naming programmes as 'Morning West Midlands' (with ol' Deadly Alancoat!) & 'Coming Home' & replace with the presenter names?

Wesley Smith back on Central News for one night only. Sadly only on a report from Oxfordshire about a woman which was on at lunchtime whose only relevance to the West Midlands is that shes flying from Birmingham Airport. Nonetheless I bet you he enjoyed saying 'Central News' again.

first of the 8pm news updates to include the midlands news tonight. nice to see suzanne bought a new red and white laura ashley-esque frock for the occasion, she must have got it with the bbc one branding in mind. well they wouldn't want to scare off the young'uns with that teal school mistress outfit she had on at 6.30.

and as for calling it bbc news west midlands ... tut tut tut .... its almost as if nobody in london had twigged why midlands today is called midlands today and not west midlands today (ie, to be inclusive to the shire counties who associate west midlands name with the county as opposed to the region)

other than that it was rather nice, although the regional bit was a little short

I missed it.

Did Natasha introduce Suzanne by name, or do a generic announcement, as if it was network?

No, the regional opt was handed over with "Now the news where you are".

Shame really, considering it's only a trial.
