they used the 'old' music on this evening's midlands today, rather than the national news music.

perhaps they've only added the national music to the short version of the titles with the "news update" end board (originally created for the one show 7.35 bulletin), which is currently used for the 10.35 standy-up bulletin.

its all a bit of a mess. surely its a case of when and not if someone realises that if they want to use the national music, they need to invest time in re-cutting the visuals - or more sensibly they could revert to using the perfectly usable 'old' music. or as mentioned before - there are several versions of the LDN music floating about which would avoid the stupidity of the regional news having exactly the same music as the national.

But i think using the national theme could be the BBC News brand to be consistent across all platforms, phase 1 was the relaunch of the website, phase 2 the relaunch of the Nationals, World and News 24 all with the same graphics package and titles and phase 3 is the regions. I would imagine when new graphics finally launch this year for the regions, new titles will be introduced all with the BBC News theme.

having different music at the start and the end of the programme is not what i'd call consistency.

given the poor way in which it has been executed i doubt very much that it was conceived centrally - if it was, i bet money would have been thrown at it. looks like local tinkering to me.

I really dont like the nationals music being used. However they use the new music on the 'powerpoint sting' now. So looks like its staying.

Also this tickled me tonight:

Damm I missed it tonite.

Sad trekkie sister deciding to watch her SKY + 'd stuff instead of the news, so now I'm listening to Butler (ok ok!! Rolling Eyes ) on WM for now.

Mollie had the metal detecting bloke on this morning by the way! Laughing

Thank god Les Ross was on today what a change to have someone worth listening to, good ridance Danny Kelly.

Why why why, put Jimmy Franks on at drivetime.. he belongs in the flying eye where he started his 'career'.

Ruth said on CNE she would be covering for Emma for a couple of days (i.e Mon and Tues), while Emma was off "enjoying the sunshine". Emma back today Smile

Ruth Wignall hasn't appeared on Central for donkey's years interestingly enough. AIUI on ITV Wales, Ruth does weather for Mon-Wed, and James Wright Thurs and Fri.

On the rare occasions when both Chaz and Em are both off, it tends to be at the end of the week-- presumably why James usually covers for them. It's the least Ruth and James can do, since Chaz and Em do the weekend/bank holiday weather for Wales!

They did that University Challenge gag on BBC EMT too Laughing They replaced one of the contestants with Anne Davies instead-- obviously too grand to be regulated to mascot status Laughing

Speaking of weather....

Are CN West doing the weather idol contest that CN East is? CNE are showing a clip of Central's first weather presenter-- there was me thinking that Chaz and Em had done Central weather for ever Wink

Yeah, Im glad somebody realised how crap it looked and sounded. The LDN Alt package is actualy quite nice, I wish they used a bed from the package just before the 'powerpoint sting'. Most regions use a few other mixes from the package, dont see why the BBC's most popular regional news programme can't!

Ruth joined the presenters live in the studio in Cardiff for a chat during Wales Tonight on Monday and Tuesday, so the Central Weather was recorded in Cardiff for a change - usually its the other way around and HTV Weather is recorded in Birmingham when Emma and Charlie do it at weekends.

Ruth does our weather usually on Mon/Tues and James Wright on Wed-Friday so thats why you had Ruth covering Mon/Tues as it was her working days. James Wright did the HTV Weather tonight.

Interesting to note, reading the Brum Mail version earlier, that Keith Beech is Acting Head Of Regional Progs at the mo.

What happened to Dave Holdsworth?

Who the hell listens to Beckford anyway on a Sunday morning anyway?

Members of the God squad & insominacs surely!

I'm normally awake for 9am, me!
