It always amused me that around the time Nina Nannar presented the lunchtime Midlands Today in the early 90s, the theme tune also went 'Nee-ner-na-narr'.

I'll get me coat.

They did have another skyline shot of Nottingham until last year, looking over to Green's Mill at Sneinton. Then they changed it to Trent Bridge around the same time as BBC EMT changed its backdrop to Trent Bridge.

Originally CNE had the Leicester skyline, after a few months they started alternating with the Sneinton skyline-- then stuck with the latter through most of 2006. They changed it to the current one in autumn 2006.

Cheers for info. Smile

What does anyone else think about Leicester (or somewhere) as a pan-regional backdrop?

Burton-on-Trent: Covered by both sub-regions, and has a interesting skyline with the breweries.

What about BBC Radio Derby's Shane o'Connor, back in his days at BBC WM, when I saw him at one of the Beebs 'meet & greet the great unwashed' at one of the Sandwell shows when he started singing 'Nina Nannar' in the style of the one Bananarama song!

On Wm today, you have a great Laughing afternoon of sport, first kicking off today from 11am with Birmingham v Cardiff, followed by at 2pm live coverage of the athletics from the NIA until 6pm.

Which means a shorter Les Ross show of 2 hours & an even shorter Brolly show of one hour(I guess we join CWR at that point!)

Going back to Les, it was bloody funny today. Due to a technical problem, Les had to read his own sport out, which involved nicking bits from the sunday papers. (At this point I texted in anonoumsly to ask if someone had wiped the sports tape, because the Sunday sports round up is prerecorded at the main live football venue, after the match on Saturday. 'Tape! We don't use tape now !' It should be on Listen Again until this Saturday!)

Oh & today, he was 'Trish Adudu' as he'd forgotten to change the jingles again! (Normally he's 'Marverine Cole'!)

TVM - How can he get the right 'Les Ross on BBC WM' jingle at 5 past the hour, but have the wrong jingles for the rest of the show?

Apart from doing Monday's show, Mollie's been off all week, with the Gospel presenter Nikki Tapper standing in.

I was that impressed ,that by this morning, I'd retuned to Ian Perry on BBC Radio Shropshire!

Right, Thats it, i'm re building Pebble Mill, I Hate the mailbox , No bus routes go outside , you have to walk.

Don't say there were no bus routes to PM Because the day I was on MT Peter Plisner did a report about TEXT Alerts on Bus Times and it read (Number ie 63) Bristol Road , Pebble Mill Road.

for all the mailbox's faults i can't agree that pebble mill was handier for public transport. there was the midland red west 144 on the pershore road and others on the bristol road which were handy for people coming from worcester/city centre/south birmingham. but the mailbox is metres from new street station, meaning much easier access for those coming from other parts of the city and beyond by public transport. however pebble mill had an adjacent, free carpark, which was much easier all round.

the top story on central news this evening ... central news surprise ill child by illustrating her stories.

from the entire midlands region, stretching from lincoln to hereford, that was the biggest thing to happen today? heart warming, yes, but then that's what cilla's surprise surprise was for. second story was update on a story from earlier in the week, and the 'and finally' was the same 'and finally' that midlands today had a few days ago.

i rarely watch central, and its even more rare for me to see the late evening bulletin. i do hope i caught them on a bad day Confused

Mollie was back for one day only(She played the Midlands Masala trail which featured a mention of Apache Indian, then she refered to Apache Indian as having done 'Informer'. Needless to say both myself & another texter did correct her), but she's sitting in for Janice Long tomorrow(Saturday), then she's off for a week herself.

Meanwhile poor Jane France, along with a few other BBC Brum employees, including Mollie, have been suffering with the lurgy. (Apparantly, according to Mollie, Jane sounded like a Dalek to her on the phone the previous day!)

I do hope Mollie's stand in is some good, as Ian Perry's only on from 5 till 6!

Er, the Mailbox is only about a five-minute walk (or something) from, say, the Navigation Street entrance of B'ham New Street train station. Or ditto from Victoria Square, or even from Centenary Square.

It's hardly a trek to get to from the nearest bus stop/train station/car park (etc)!

Okay, so PM was on a bus route - big bloomin' deal.

It was in far-flung (Edgbaston-ish?) suburb, FFS! So, people would pretty much HAVE TO get on a bus (unless they happened to live out that way anyway)! A tiny walk from city centre transport hubs (e.g train stations, etc), is clearly much more accessible than PM was!

Except for "fat-and-lazy" types, who don't expect to have to walk more than 3cm from a bus stop!
