Did I see June Kelly reporting from Northampton?

EMT or Look East?

I watch EMT most nights, and I have never seen/heard her on EMT. Curiously EMT don't (or seldom) feature reports from Northants, unlike CNE. Having said that CNE usually use Anglia News reports from Karl Heidel rather than sending a CNE reporter.

i do think it adds a bit of class to the proceedings

meanwhile midlands today's former chief correspondent (now media lecturer at staffordshire university) gary hudson made an appearance in friday's sutton coldfield observer. not a particularly interesting article, but mildly, ok, on the verge of interesting to know where he ended up. the article was about how he collected the autographs of world cup players in 1966 at penns hall hotel in the royal town - which was incidentally used for exteriors on the original eps of crossroads.

and heres a clip of bob warman in his pre-central days presenting miss yorkshire television 1977

I noticed a week or two back, yet another change of view on CNwest's "window" Rolling Eyes

This time, it appears to be looking down the length of pedestrianised High Street (therefore presumably the buildings on the left include The Pavillions shopping centre) towards the "Bull Statue side" of the Bullring (as opposed to the "Selfridges/St Martin's side"), and the junction with pedestrianised New Street, etc.

It's the worst view to date, IMHO. Most of the buildings in the view are grey cuboids. Drab drab drab. And the night-time version is just a sea of that horrible urban "orange glow" that typifies cities by night.

The Selfridges/St Martin's view, and the Centenary Square view, were both so much nicer, IMHO.

I can't work out what building the camera's placed on, but it seems very very high up. Is the BT tower at that end of town? (I've not been into Brum for a wee while, and have forgotten where some stuff is)

EDIT: Forgot to mention the most obvious building that's in this latest view - the Rotunda! Doh! Embarassed

How often are they changing the backdrop?! CN East have been using the backdrop of Trent Bridge for months now-- the same backdrop as BBC East Midlands Today too! Rolling Eyes

It's only during about the past six-months or less that CNwest have been chopping and changing the view of Brum a lot. Until recently there was a period when they would use the daylight Selfridges/St.Martin's view in conjunction with the Centenary Square night-time view (so, the view would change within the course of each single calendar day)!!!

I'm glad to hear that CNeast have seemingly abandonded the drab, grey Leicester view altogether. But surely they could find a view of Nottingham, other than a blatant EMT rip-off?

Seeing as CNwest over the years has often liked to pretend that Leicester is in its region, and now that CNeast have seemingly abandoned the Leicester/Nottingham backdrop rotation in favour of just Nottingham, couldn't we start having Leicester as the pan-regional GMTV/weekend "window"?

Having that teal "screen saver" of a backdrop for the pan-regionals makes the studio look so much more enclosed than when there's an outdoor view there.

After all, the Meridian pan-regionals can have Brighton Pier. Can't imagine what Anglia would be able to use though...

They did have another skyline shot of Nottingham until last year, looking over to Green's Mill at Sneinton. Then they changed it to Trent Bridge around the same time as BBC EMT changed its backdrop to Trent Bridge.

Originally CNE had the Leicester skyline, after a few months they started alternating with the Sneinton skyline-- then stuck with the latter through most of 2006. They changed it to the current one in autumn 2006.

Cheers for info. Smile

What does anyone else think about Leicester (or somewhere) as a pan-regional backdrop?
