Radio Shropshire did that not too long ago. The morning show, with Eric failed to materialise for the first hour, instead having Radio Five Live in the interval.
Is that the stadard practice for, presumably, faults?
I guess it would depend on the nature of the fault. In the Shropshire case, if the first programme of the day has a problem then I'd imagine that staying with Five Live which has been sustaining overnight is the easiest thing to do.
I'd be surprised at Five Live being put to air automatically if a programme fell off the air, due to a fault or evacuation or similar, there should be an emergency "tape" both at the studio and the transmitter sites which would kick in either automatically or manually.

Anyone know what was happening to WM around 9am this morning?
It suddenly swopped to FiveLive for their news bulletin then Janice Long managed to regain control about 5 mins later!
