Even if they repeated some of the 'classic' regional series, such as Sue Beardsmore's 'Balloon', which I saw, Tony Butler's stuff from the 80's, which I never saw anyway, it would be a change.

I'm assuming these shows still exist in the archives, so is it a rights problem?

you have to remember that classic docs do not fit easily onto bbc one. nowerdays, the only place you're likely to see one is on bbc four. much of the stuff was broadcast locally on bbc two - which of course is no longer regional.

i only have one ep of the balloon on tape - would be fab to see the rest again!

No reason why BBC Four couldn't have a strand showing old stuff from the regions. Wasn't there a programme UK Direct at some point doing just that but with more recent material?

Last night (Wednes 22nd Nov), just before I'm A Celebrity... Exclusive! at 5:30pm, there was a promo for Central News West, that seemed to be very much a case of ITV's answer to the BBC's "this is what we do" promos. I think the slogan was "Where it's happening" or something. Any other ITV regions/sub-regions got one of these style of promo?

There's been nothing like that on Central East, although I'm sure it will be copied before too long! Laughing

I found his gimmick disappointing. If it were in mock designs, I'd have voted a 1.

Personally, I'd have expected something more outrageous, like having Nick's myspace on the plasma. Or having a picture of Nick Harvey on his desk, like I have.

Yes - UK Direct was a show on News 24 (and possibly BBC One) at one point that showed the best of the pre-Inside Out BBC Regional documentary output that used to air on the BBC Two Thursday slot before BBC Two became a non-regional (apart from the Super League Show and when Wimbledon shunts the Six to BBC Two) network.

ISTR that UK Direct was the nominated standby for UK Today (which ran on DSat and DTT before BBC One regional opts were carried) - and it ran on occasion when News 24 or the National studio couldn't broadcast UK Today.

Anyone know what was happening to WM around 9am this morning?

It suddenly swopped to FiveLive for their news bulletin then Janice Long managed to regain control about 5 mins later!

Radio Shropshire did that not too long ago. The morning show, with Eric failed to materialise for the first hour, instead having Radio Five Live in the interval.

Is that the stadard practice for, presumably, faults?

I gather that a UK Direct was shown in place of UK Today on the occasion of the power cut that caused the six to fall off air.
