I thought you could just do cuts, but not mix back to network like in the pre-digital days.
What you should be able to do is fade to black, opt back and this should cut to network from black. Or if you're able to bodge things by putting a second feed of network onto your mixer you can do a soft-opt style mix:
Mix from local camera/ VT/etc to the second network feed, then cut to the "real" network feed and that will opt digital back. That's the kind of thing they do for CIN for local captions.

from what i remember the tribute ended in a fade to black - followed by a cut to network. which isn't really out of the ordinary - its just instead of opting back from the closing sting vt they were opting back from black - just another source on the vision mixer? the actual opt was a cut, as usual. i think.
anyway - caught a bit of les this morning. very reminiscent of les' programme he did live from tysley station when has was on brmb.
not only are they doing the ob from a moving train - they even had a link up with bbc cwr (who cover stratford, the destination of les' train)... and who happened to be the presenter of said programme on cwr ... the one and only miss wincey willis! les made her do a weather forecast for old times sake. that's made my morning. honestly.

Blimey you're up early Mr TVM!
You've beaten me to some of this morning's broadcast, but a bit more info as well.
Adam Fletcher(the breakfast show traffic person, Jane France is on phones at this point isn't she normally?) was tech opping in the studio, while Les & 'Genner' were on the train.
Chinnie was live from somewhere(whether it was the Mailbox or not I don't know, as it was mentioned he'd have to get to the Box for 1pm!), interjecting with history bits, then there was Wincey as mentioned.(Surprised Nick Owen wasn't involved for old times sake!)
Following the train,in the radio car, was Jenny Jones, meeting Les at Stratford, as was Phil Upton, complete with Upton minor. (Is that right Upton's another train spotter?)(No Shabina, as previously threatened!
)
Another plug for Upton's takeover of weekday brekky from 2/10, plus you have the chance to become one of 'Phil's Pundits' tomorrow, if you support one of the 5 West Mids footy teams, by turning up at the Mailbox & auditioning.
Talking of Jane France, TNS Ladies(Jane's the coach of said womens footy team!) were playing in the Kings Norton area today,& Mollie was supposed to be cheering them on, as KN is not far from Redditch(Mollie's stomping ground!).
So if anyone was in Kings Norton & saw a womens football match, plus some strange bird going 'Go Jane Go Jane', along with some random people on the touchline, pound to a penny it's Mollie & some of the Early Show listeners !
(I've got better things to do, but I wonder they swopped shirts later?
)
I'm sure we'll hear full details tomorrow morning between 5 & 7,along with the rest of Mollie's weekend!

Is there some awards on tonight?
No Nick, no Shefali.
Suzanne was paired with Ashley, & Simon Keeling did the weather.
The build up to Phil Upton @ Breakfast on WM continues with tonight's post MT trail promoting that show, & earlier, if you were out & about in the WM transmission area & spotted a radio car between 4 & 7, Upton was challenged to get around the area, without using motorways, in 3 hours, starting & finishing in Solihull.

Good, well since mid last year they went back to very basic angles, straight for most, and no end shot.
They now seem to be using all of their cameras and used a wide shot for the end of the programme on Tues, but its been dropped again! They now seem to be using the studio a lot better!

I know I used to moan about the CNW studio before relaunch, but I do miss the strong blue they used to have, it gave them a bit of originality over the other regions.
