It was intended as irony you muppet. What do you think the unabbreviated form of "let's" is?

Midlands Today.

From an outsiders' perspective: what is it about local news in the Midlands that takes itself so seriously?

I didn't need telling, but I'm glad you cleared that up. Just in case people thought you were taking this all too seriously.

It's probably something to do with feeling second in the importance stakes to London. All local news programmes are guilty of it. I've seen the "BBC Newsline Investigates" aston.

That said, bringing in your "fans" for a football-free zone and seemingly revolving the programme around that idea - that's taking local news gimmickry to a whole new level of naff (great though it was to see a TV appearance by a TVF-member!)

That's actually what I had in mind when I wrote that. Thinking about it, Central News West is probably more of a guilty party than Midlands Today - every time I watch, Bob Warman presents in a manner akin to breaking news of the end of the world. The delivery is astonishing. Follow that with a promo about something like a change in broadcast time that could easily be a trailer for Charlie's Angels. Midlands Today is a bit more subtle, but equally self-important. I'm not saying they should lighten things up with clowns reading the news, but regional news in the Midlands seems to be at the forefront of patonising, self-important presentation when compared to the rest of the regions.

In my opinion.

LOL you're missing the innovative nature of the programme! I don't think you could EVER say Midlands Today takes itself too seriously - I think out of most the regions it's the one that likes to think it's a complete parody of the whole regional news idea.

Bad graphics, constant technical problems and kids doing their homework on the sofa!!! Admitedly a lot of the new reporters recently lend themself to the OTT style that we've come to hate, but look at some of the more classic reporters and presenters on the programme and you'll see it's oh from taking itself too seriously.

Central News - well it wouldn't be the same without Bob putting a collapsing pub in Oldbury on the same level as Armageddon.

It's very rare for Bob to come out with a pun or joke, but when he does it's well worth the wait

is it me or has the transition between national's end to the begining of Mids Today, much smoother now, the music starts bang on time, rather than before, and the first second of titles missing,

Well she's now a lecturer in Broadcast Journalism at Gloucester Uni, although I suppose she could still be involved in some programme making.
