They're seriously keeping the desk? It must have been knocking about for around ten years now!

Looks like there's a soft set too.

It looks really nice, much nicer than anything I expected from an English Region - especially after the let downs of Oxford and Jersey

Oh well, can't please everyone I suppose...

Sorry I should have made myself clearer - the Oxford and Jersey sets are nice - in fact on such tiny budgets and minute spaces I'm quite impressed - on the other hand I was let down by the fact that the two are clearly using the previous regional news style and I was expecting something a bit more NBH - but of course budget cuts ruin everything.

Will be interesting to see what people think of the new music... Sadly the term "Casio keyboard" comes to mind for me..

Is it a David Lowe composition?

Yep!

I think you might be able to hear it if you find that place on the iPlayer...

It looks like it is a light box in the middle. If they light the desk right then it will work I guess.

They said it was a video wall.

How is Oxford using the previous style? The screens by the desk and at the other corner very much look like those in the NBH studios.

That's not it, but a special mix, nice enough.

The thinking behind the set design for Oxford was that it needed to bridge the gap between the set used for the Six and the set used in Southampton. Hence, it's got the new style acrylic plasma stands and more elements of red, yet is basically a rectangle, rather than a 'figure of eight' in shape. As has been mentioned, the studio size is very small and a rectangle is far better use of the space available than a set based around circles. Cost was also an important factor, and by using an existing desk (it's a reworking of BBC London's coffee table from when they were in Studio V in the Peel Wing) a second plasma was affordable for stand up sequences.

From those preview images, the new set for SET looks very impressive. I look forward to seeing it on air.

Oh you mean this?
Midlands Today Special

It was just a special mix just for Midlands Today.

The new South East is totally different (and not quite as nice IMO)

From what i've seen, the new set looks great.
Obviously i'm not a viewer in that region so i'm not really aware of what was there before, the desk looks fine, they could possibly re light the desk to match the color of the national sets, if that's even practical/can happen.
Scotland and the Wales desk doesn't really match the nationals either, it's red in the middle.

I quite like that new set for SET: it's definitely more NBH than N6 in design, even from what we've seen.

It certainly holds out hope that we'll get something decent in Plymouth. They have even more space. I just hope they haven't scrimped on cost, considering that they saved money on not moving to the new build at Sutton Quay.
