Well that weather sequence didn't work very well, from the viewer's photo we couldn't see to the weather graphics which seemed to have caught the hippy shakes.
Should've done the camera move they use for Business on Breakfast. Very slick.
The mix of old/new music is weird and to my ears the old and new don't seem to "fit" quite like it should. The gap on restarting the headline/coming up beds is annoying (although I do like the key changes between headline/stories). Trimming the files on spot on could fix that, easily enough.. Hopefully they will.
The set however does feel very bland, its shiny and new and a bit "Apple store" but its monotone, literally white and red and no other colour at all, I don't know why but it needs a splash of something else, perhaps chrome or silver just to break things up a bit, not sure what but it feels like its missing something to me.
Nice to see some people in the virtual office for once though, that chap seemed to be on the phone a very long time whilst they were talking about the NHS.
But I'm not sure I'll ever the get the logic of covering a real view of a newsroom for a virtual one...
The short titles played for tonight's late bulletin seem to sync well with the music. Still not quite sure about the images used on the titles, more meerkats, rooftops and a Mini London Eye.
After the short titles, you see Rob walking towards the video screen from the desk to deliver the top story.
Despite the fake newsroom, the slightly odd music mix and Rachel stumbling when the gallery didn't switch to the camera when showing the viewer photos, overall it's a massive improvement, if a tad bland.
Viewers on Facebook have complained about it being "too formal" but in comparison to BBC London News, it still has character.
I think it's a very successful relaunch and a great use of the space they have available. I agree there's quite a lot of White, and it is a little serile but it's a huge improvement over what they had. The barco wall is great and it's nice to see a soft set incorporated for the bottom half of the show. For me, t he lighting on the soft set looks a little murky and there are one or two reflections of soft lights here and there but these things often take time to tweak and settle. Maybe over time they will warm up the colour of the set a little - if they've got RGB LED strips it's fairly easy to dial up an alternative colour.
The logic of faking a newsroom is on the face of it strange given that there's a real one there, but real newsrooms are often half empty when the main programme is on air (and almost completely empty at 2225 and weekends) so at least by faking one you can make it look decent. And look at all the restrictions on staff working in the W1 newsroom who are at desks in shot behind the nationals: no coats on chairs, no unnecessary moving around etc. They've also had to light the newsroom in London (with loads of LED par cans and cyc lights) in order to make the newsroom look good on the telly. At The Mailbox, there was a constant battle with the newsroom fluorescent lighting, natural daylight and the window at the far end.

Maybe there's different titles for each day? Just a thought
It might of just been because of the breaking news, but last night the intro to the 6:30 programme was much more like how it's done on the news channel - Rob Smith was STANDING UP (OMG HOW EXCITING!!!!!!) with the first headline and Polly Evans was sat down with other headlines, complete with the name checks.
Meanwhile, the breaking news strap text appeared typewriter style, and was the only graphic with any form of animation - the strap itself faded on but the text appeared in the aforementioned style.
I watched the SET late bulletin this evening. I don't think the studio looks
too
white or bland at all: in fact once they move to the single headed shot the background more than makes up for that, and has quite deep rich colours mentioned earlier in this thread.
Having watched the video above, I think perhaps they could try to colour some of the vast expanse of white in the 'soft area' with different lighting. Presumably they'll have something like that to give a general purple hue for their Sunday Politics opt (if they have one).
