Wow, love the new look. Its very different to the other BBC World News programs but I like it. I hope they use the studio more than just for a few hours on weekdays. Its a great a studio so they should use it more.
Rico and the dragons dancing around the studio was such an awkward thing to watch. Don't know what they were thinking with that!
For those who are not familiar with the dragon and drums, it is actually part of the playing of a lion dance, which is a very popular Chinese cultural performance and is often played during the opening of a new business/premises.
Is there any recording of today's Newsday somewhere?
I bet the oranges are also used to symbolically bring luck to the new premise.
Both the lion dance performance and orange giving are extremely popular during Chinese New Year too.
The standing up shot from London looks a bit awkward, does it not? Whilst on the catwalk the presenter looks like they're standing in front of the screen for a reason, the shot standing up behind the desk just seems slightly odd. Surely London could use the catwalk as well, meaning they wouldn't have to use the stripped down 'sidebar' graphics.
And as for Asia Business Report, how is it that the ticker animates on but the rest of the graphics do not?
Maybe the ticker is played out in London and the rest in Singapore?
Yes. The ticker is added in London, either in BH or by Red Bee depending on the tx chain.
The graphics in Singapore are faded on and off via a DSK on the mixer. There are animated graphics available, and a locator, however it is a change in workflow that would be one step too far for the limited staff in Singapore, at least for now. The graphics themselves are generated differently in Singapore (using CasparCG) to London (using VizRT).
I think the music is a mix of BBC Newsline ,BBC World Service,TV2 Norway and CCTV 1 ident
