New BBC Singapore studio

I thought that splitting it from the main thread might be nice... (July 2015)

I presume that's an autocue controller in Rico's hand? I noticed there's a pedal at the desk position in one of the preview videos.

Having both presenters standing in front of almost the same shot and using an effect to mix between them looks a little weird.

I noticed while Rico introduced Sharanjit Leyl next to his laptop he had an Autoscript controller for the TelePrompTer. I'm curious was he responsible for his prompter before the move?

Over the shoulder, sort of, graphics, stolen from Victoria Derbyshire Rolling Eyes they even animate the same way as they do on VDP

I'm not really sure Victoria Derbyshire can claim creation of Over the Shoulder graphics, given they've been around since the 1970s in various forms. Not really a fan of the new titles - location aston is apocryphal - it would be alright as a one time graphic but in a title sequence; the voiceover isn't necessary and not very BBC - also the wording is a little odd; and the music doesn't have that same BBC TV News feel that the other strands do - it sounds very World Service.

I suspect so - if Singapore is run with so few members of staff it would seem more cost-effective for the presenter to operate the autocue themselves rather than having someone do it for them.

As for the new look, well the music is lovely, as are the visuals. David Lowe has really done well with new BBC News music recently, as it sounds distinctly different but still keeps a sense of familiarity. A voiceover is something not seen on the BBC for a very long time and I'm not sure it works - the presenters doing what they did before with the 'it's 1 in the morning here in London, and it's 8am in Singapore' could possibly work better.

Is there no split shot between the two presenters now? I won't be able to watch until the NC simulcast at midnight, but from what has been posted so far there was no shot of the pair of them properly co-presenting as it were.

EDIT: Answered as I typed! Hmm...

The BOTH headlines is not BBC World News branded, its now Newsday branded. With a headline over Babita's shoulder.

Slight change to the music in ABR. Graphics fail. Still no animating straps on ABR!!!!

A fantastic new look for the program. It's great to see new presentation techniques that aren't used anywhere else on World News.

I thought the graphics and music really help to make this show look like a flagship broadcast for the network.

I did find the lack of communication between Rico and Babita rather odd (except for the last segment). I thought an advantage of the updates was fibre lines, meaning they could chat without delay. It makes the programme seems like 2 shows sliced into 1.

I noticed while Rico was taking to Sharanjit, the shots didn't look like they were full HD. Was this just my imagination, or is there still some loss in quality in some shots?

Do you have an image. ABR is preempted in North America.

Using Newsday colours...

The background image is a lot better on ABR then the Newsday one, should hopefully fix Newsday's soon.

Why does ABR have it's own unique lower thirds?
