New backdrops for BBC News

The newsroom backrop from TC7 / N6 would I think look horribly washed out. Plus the depth perspective that "reasonably" worked before would be lost. They'd have to start from again from scratch if they were to do this.

Also I think the "mezzanine" newsroom video backdrop was, as it appears to me at least, designed to be used on a curved screen for depth perception. Look at how the ends of the screen appear to give it away. So just a few thoughts.

Matt Hancock being interviewed on BBC Breakfast currently. The chromakey (presumably?) backdrop of the "London Newsroom" is dominated by a huge concrete pillar filling most of the left-hand 50% of the view. Ugh.

And Christian Fraser outside Westminster on the screens above studio E complete with the old pre-Reith News channel graphics so its clearly not new footage.

White lower thirds on those screens too, so it’s pre-Reith.

Don’t they usually change the big round screen thing(no idea what it’s actually called) to orange for breakfast interviews.

It was in the one they have used until now but that probably required a considerable amount of time to produce. This seems like a quick fix which if it ends up last six months makes sense.

The simpler option would be to just replace it with a different backdrop all together - anything from the shot of NBH they use at the start of the Ten, to a simple Breakfast graphics background, to a London skyline.

That thing is not only ugly, but very dimly lit for that time of the morning. It’s lit for the Ten, not the bright colours of a morning programme. If the recorded newsroom looks inappropriately busy given COVID, maybe stop pretending you’ve unnecessarily sat the Health Secretary in it instead of obscuring the busy scenes with a pillar?

Is ‘the state of the world’ being filmed in studio B?

I thought might be there Wednesday so could be wrong but the table looks a bit different
