Bill Neely is joining NBC News as the London-based chief global correspondent, TVNewser has learned. An announcement is expected this afternoon.
Neely joins from ITN where he has been International Editor for ITV News since 2002. Neely is no stranger to NBC News as he appears often from various world hotspots. The two networks have a content sharing partnership. He’ll also be re-joining his former ITN boss Deborah Turness who is now president of NBC News.
I gather Bill Neely and Ann Curry will be on the same level as international correspondents go. Thats a strong duo.
Interesting how Turness is hiring lots of ex-ITV/ITN staff. Bill's only the second person I think, but still, quite telling. Congratulations to Bill though.
I wonder who will get his position at ITV? James Mates maybe?
No doubt Bill will be a huge loss for ITV but I think their foreign coverage is quite strong. People like John Irvine, John Ray and James Mates hopefully will fill the void Bill leaves. It will be interesting to see if ITV look outside the organisation to replace Bill. People like Alex Crawford and Jeremy Bowen are possible outside contenders but I think John Irvine would be the ideal candidate to fill the big boots left behind.

The other guy was the Editor who revamped the website iirc. Husband of the BBC's Luisa Baldini.
There's speculation on Broadcast Now that he will become Head of Newsgathering at BBC News.
Quote:
ITV News’ deputy editor Jonathan Munro is to leave ITN after 26 years amid speculation he is to become the BBC’s head of newsgathering.
Munro is the third member of the ITV News top table to depart in recent months after editor Deborah Turness joined NBC News in August and head of output Cristina Nicolotti Squires was named Channel 5 News’ editor last month.
He has not revealed what his next move is, but sources have indicated that he is likely to join James Harding’s team at the BBC as head of newsgathering.
Munro is understood to have held conversations with the corporation over the role, but a spokeswoman declined to comment on whether he had been formally appointed.
“After 26 wonderful years at ITN, full of the richest experiences I could ever have hoped for, it feels like the right time for me to venture into the outside world,” Munro said, who spent a brief spell acting up for Turness before Geoff Hill was appointed as ITV News editor.
“The team that remains here is very strong, enthusiastic and talented. It’s a great strength of this newsroom that we have always respected those with knowledge, experience and wisdom, but also allowed young talent to shine.”
ITN chief executive John Hardie added: “I thank Jonathan for his valued contribution as part of our senior team in my years at ITN. Hugely respected by all within the company and across the industry, Jonathan leaves with our very best wishes.”
He joined ITN as an editorial trainee in 1987 and spent time as a producer in the field, a news editor and as a correspondent on-screen for the North of England and Europe. Management roles have included head of home news, head of newsgathering, deputy editor and acting editor on three occasions.
