NBC Nightly News has Gone HD. They previously were in 4:3, like ABC and CBS still are. I don't know if they made major changes, as I'm not in the US anymore, but here are a few from Wikipedia:

seamus, I would use imageshack and put them as thumbnails, If I were you it's a bit huge even for my widescreen laptop.

Here's video of Brian Williams making a comment on the switch to HD:

It makes sense IMO, that they waited to go HD rather than use SD 16:9, cost effective as well.

Yes, seamus, could you downscale the images, please? They are far too large.

16:9 SD, is almost non existent in the US...

It was a good idea to go straight from 4:3 SD to 16:9 HD but shouldn't they have waited until at least some of their sources were in HD, like ABC and CBS have?

CBS and ABC News aren't in HD.

I got what you meant Smile

I'm in two minds on this one. One part of me agrees with where you're coming from, the other reckons that unless bulletins take the step and make the switch, there's no incentive for sources to be provided in HD.

On an aside, John Seigenthaler completed his final weekend bulletin with NBC earlier today.

I'm fully aware of that I meant the studio cameras and then upscaling it on the HD channel, thats what some broadcasters do.

Once again, seamus, could you please downscale those images you've posted? Despite the large uptake of broaband now, there are still some people on dial-up, not to mention the fact that those images completely throw the layout of the page, even on a widescreen display.

Sorry, I meant that they've stayed in 4:3 until some of their sources change over.

Why? The pictures would lose the HD crispness at a lower resolution. The point of the thread is to discuss the HD stuff, innit?

I've seen the new graphics. They look great!
