FYI you can download for free, full editions of the evening news programmes from ABC, CBS & NBC via iTunes. I watch them on my pc most days. I've been into the NBC NN studio whilst on the NBC Studio tour when I was in NYC last month (IMO a better tour than the BBC's, as we had access to the news studio).

My favourite set is CBS, although I can't make up my mind as to which programme I prefer overall. By getting them on iTunes, I don't have to stay up late (of course, I have to wait till the next day) and I can compare content more easier.

You can also download the first hour of the NBC "Today" programme and excerpts of "Good Morning America" from ABC; however, for some reason, you cannot get "The Early Show" from CBS.

Thanks for that tip!

I'm subscribed to 'Today' but have found that you can't beat the podcast for MSNBC's Morning Joe, if you want a concise discussion of hot topics, and of course the podcasts for Countdown and Maddow (particularly so) are always worth watching.

Nice to see NN back on CNBC (which, for the moment at least, is on my "Free TV" package with Virgin). Brian Williams even welcomed back viewers in the UK & Europe, at the end of the newscast.

(Please ignore this being placed in an NBC News thread, it seemed more logical to put it in here than starting a new one)...

In case anyone is interested, the new anchor team for The Early Show begins on Monday. Only the news anchor, Erica Hill, escaped the axe from the weekday team (and earned a nice promotion in the process).

Anyone know what's happening to Maggie Rodriguez or Dave Price? Harry Smith stays on as substitute host.

Dave Price stays with the Early Show to do features etc, as does Julie Chen (one of the current co-hosts who is on maternity leave at the moment). No idea about Maggie. Harry Smith will be a substitute host although for the CBS Evening News and 'Face the Nation', their Sunday Morning program,

When I was over in the states in October, CBS were plugging a new show called 'The Talk' for all it's worth.
It is CBS's not very subtle rip-off of ABC's 'The View' - and Chen was the main presenting force of The Talk. I thought she had left The Early Show to do this.

I'm sorry, SNT Three, but you're wrong. Dave Price has left CBS News altogether - his last day on the Early Show was December 17 and he announced that he was leaving the network at the same time. Julie Chen no longer files reports for the broadcast - she is based in Los Angeles and the only role she may have in the future for the Early Show is filing a report on the Academy Awards, the Emmys, etc.

Maggie's future is uncertain. She has had a rapid rise up the ladder at CBS News going from WFOR in Miami to the network. There has been talk of her getting a role on Sunday Morning or 48 Hours but this looks unlikely. Her husband, Michael, has just taken up a position as the Vice President of Legal Affairs at Telemundo. The press release announcing the move stated that Michael and his whole family would be returning to Miami-Dade (which is where Telemundo are based). In all honesty, there's a growing sense around the news division that Rodriguez will return to the CBS O&O in Miami (WFOR) for a short time until a position becomes available for her elsewhere within the network. One option that has been suggested would be a correspondent reshuffle, with Maggie getting the southeastern US.

Harry Smith is staying on at CBS News - he moves to a newly created role as 'Primary Alternate Anchor', a role similar to that occupied by Judy Woodruff at CNN when Bernard Shaw was the 'Primary Anchor'. Harry will deputise for Katie Couric on the CBS Evening News , for Bob Schieffer on CBS Face the Nation and for Charles Osgood on CBS Sunday Morning . In all honesty, this a promotion for Smith as he will be seen across the entire CBS News brand and is being positioned to succeed to any of the above roles in the event of an opening.

I didn't know the presenting team was changing on Early Show. Here's a short promo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xWLzsOgQzs

Out of interest, did Maggie get a goodbye or did she simply not appear again after the announcement? I know it's been publicised about both Dave Price and Harry Smith having their final broadcasts, but not Maggie.

Also is the set and presentation staying the same? The promo seems to suggest the logo will lose the yellow/ orange for light blues?

Best of luck to the Early Show team for the new year - here's hoping the younger, fresher team works out for them!

This is a little awkward. Maggie was scheduled to have some time off over December for other commitments (filming, awards hosting, etc.) As it happened, the announcement about the anchor changes was made the day after she had finished. She was due to reappear the week of Christmas but there were some issues (which I'm led to believe were related to her husband's new role at Telemundo). Because of this, she never appeared again and thus never had an opportunity to say farewell. It's not so much that she wasn't given the chance to do so - it's more a case of one thing led to another and time ran out.

The graphics are staying the same, same voice over too "From CBS News, it's the Early Show, with XXX and XXX"
They might use the other variants of the title music too.
