The Variety article is incorrect and is referring to the Peacock service. Limited rollout in April, full launch in July. Both rollouts are US only.

I have no idea about the timelines for the news service though.

A new Variety article reveals that 'NBC Sky World News' will launch this Summer. The channel will be distributed via Peacock ( "along with other broadband distribution" ) in the US as well as cable and satellite across Europe.

In regards to the channel's operations:
Quote:
"[NBCUniversal and Sky] ...intends to recruit new talent as well as 100 employees to produce programming, says Deborah Turness, president of NBC News International and the executive overseeing the new outlet’s launch. NBCU and Sky will also open ten new international bureaus, she adds, “in places we feel news is under-reported.”

Additionally, the channel will rely strongly on NBC News' existing international correspondents like Richard Engel and Janis Mackey Frayer

'NBC Sky World News'

Snappy - it just trips off the tongue. Even @nbcsky looks clunky - unless they decide upon the full name for their online handles...

I could see them putting the peacock ontop or the Sky logotype like they did with the newer Comcast logo. But they still can refer to is as NBC Sky News.

What's the chances of NBC trying to flog its stake in Euronews? After all, NBC News can now do some of what it wanted to do with Euronews more quickly and efficiently with Sky.

Bet NBC wouldn't have invested in Euronews if they knew they were going to have Sky a few years later.

Nonsense, it’s a chance for even more unwieldy co-branding: NBC Sky News Euronews! Or NBCSNEN for short.

Im sure that EuroNews will be used as way in funnel news from the continent into NBCSkyWorldNews. I cant imagine that its sources wont be leveraged by NBCU. Even though maybe it wont be featured on air persay. NBCU is going to make it work by hook or crook. They dont need the channel for prestige or anything like that. If it doenst make money it doesnt make sense.

Per se. It's Latin of "by or in itself."

I’ll just say this NBC as a whole is one broadcasters here that rely only audience metrics such as ratings, feedback, surveys and they even have a spot at Universal Orlando where guests can go in and screen prospective pilots, rate them and I believe get a reward. I imagine they likely did something similar with this new venture either by asking Americans who want more world news, likely expats and others across the globe to see if there’s an appetite for a new news channel. They run a bumper saying “More Americans watch NBC News than any other news organization in the world” and it’s probably backed up through studies and popularity.

The Rachel Maddow Show on msnbc is was apparently very popular with foreign viewers that they frequently would feature them in a Friday Night News dump quiz, usually consisting of three questions usually about the show or events. They then would get a prize. Just the fact that the quizzes of sorts included questions from previous shows (basically to prove you watched) and international viewers would have to watch every single episode says a lot. They stopped doing it because I believe there was actually significantly enough “Friday night news dumps” that they needed to time to go over it or they ran out of props they had in their closet. One of the props they had was a section of the White House fence and the modification to prevent people from jumping over. It was designed and fabricated to the exact dimension and so it was restricted to anyone who lived in the tri-state area who could come pick it up either in a box struck.

Has it been stated if the new international version of Sky News will replace current version over seas?

RXTV Log is speculating that it'll replace Sky News International in continental Europe.
