NBC have uploaded the West Coast edition of Nightly News.

The pre-blackout parts remain before 8:40, then Kate Snow is in the studio pictured above with the single screen talking about the blackout. It includes a clip of herself in darkness.

The rest of broadcast continues from that single screen.

Interesting @ 11:44 they are in the studio again in the alcove. On the west coast feeds they typically cut out elements and insert new ones. That segment was actually aired right around when the blackout hit - 6:47pm.

Looks like they dropped a tribute to a MLB player, Tyler Skaggs of the Los Angeles Angels, who died unexpectedly while at an away game. At the first home game his mother threw out the first pitch, the players all wearing his jersey, they won 13 and 0 and the teammates put his jersey on the pitchers mound.

It was interesting that they had scenic views of the western half of the country in the closing instead of the standard NYC skyline.

Some Western Edition newscasts would have scenic views of the western half and is namechecked as "the Western Edition" , as this open of the Western Edition of the CBS Evening News from 2016 that featured the skyline of Seattle

Posting this in the specific NBC News thread.

NBC NEWS DC BUREAU MOVING - It has a really good view of the Capitol. And if my memory is correct this will the first or currently in use, network news bureau in DC with streetfront studios. Nice location.

from POLITICO.
PEACOCK NEWS ... ANDY LACK, the chairman of NBC News, used a town hall at 30 Rock today to preview the network's move from the Nebraska Avenue studios to 400 North Capitol, just blocks from the Capitol.

This move has been long buzzed about in D.C. and New York. As Playbook reported in April 2017, NBC has taken over the old Johnny's Half Shell space, and plans to make it a street-level studio with floor-to-ceiling windows with a view of the Capitol.

NBC is moving 350 D.C.-based employees to the new bureau in time for Super Tuesday 2020 -- March 3. "Meet the Press" and all of MSNBC's shows are moving to 400 North Cap. NBC will have space on five floors in the building. “Moving from NBC News’ historic Nebraska Avenue location to North Capitol allows us to brand ourselves in Washington in ways we’ve never done before,” Lack said.

I saw them clearing out some old offices on 400 N Capitol Street a few months back moving people there. This probably explains why they haven’t debuted or reconstructed the fire damaged studios and offices. Right now from what I’ve seen the News Channel space which used to use real window backdrops for their insert (DTL) studios are using monitor backdrops with live images of the Capitol. The set up they have work space wise doesn’t look permanent (control room monitors not mounted on walls rather mounted on the consoles and not as many). I imagine the fire fast tracked their plans a bit. I knew about the MTP studio but was keeping it quiet for a while.

Moving all the DC space will allow them to keep and more easily renovate or rebuild the 4001 Nebraska Avenue studios of WRC and WZDC (Telemundo). I couldn’t imagine how they’d manage to renovate the old building with so many employees based there and with every bit of studio space packed. The Telemundo studio space alone is in a former prop storage room. The WRC studio is an awkward L shape with the news desk and backdrop taking the width, a small corner stand up position and a small demo area. It’s so small the weather and traffic center is in the newsroom, with meteorologists coming to the studio for hits that require them to be in studio.

Didnt know WRC had such an awkward space. WMAQ has such a weird awkward space as well. They rammed the Telemundo station in the same space as well. And remember WMAQ operates out the purpose built NBC Tower. What a mess. Good Thing WRC problems are getting solved. DOnt think they will ever do anything at the NBC Tower. They do have to 2 stuios going spare when all the talkshows moved to the coasts.
I'm here to give you something to talk about!

Does anyone have any pictures/screen caps of Studio 3B when it was inhabited by Dateline? If so could you share them?

Here you go: https://www.flickr.com/photos/dennisdegan/531931431/

There were some videos from that era 2005 online but it was on the old portal shared with MSNBC and MSN. I couldn’t get the videos to load. I’m on my iPhone now but there was a BTS video search for “dateline inside studio 3B”.

Additionally a lot of the video sharing sites were non existent so there’s not an archive you can really look back up at.

Your welcome. It appears he no longer works there. I believe he was the producer who did the cut of Lawrence O’Donnell having a melt down over hammering going on during his show. All that was said was it was a male video editor at the Today Show was fired - DD’s job. After the video was released (and the announcement of a firing) there have been no more behind the scenes NBC photos. I talked to someone there and was all but confirmed.

On his LinkedIn page he has put the TODAY show job down as from Oct 2003-Sept 2017. Seems you may be right.

I can’t believe I missed this but NBC is essentially rolling out their own version of VILOR for some of their smaller Telemundo stations. They are building an IP infrastructure for KLBR (Telemundo Las Vegas) where everything is in their datacenter back in Dallas. The only equipment left in Las Vegas will be the multiviewer because the 100ms latency with robotic cameras would be unacceptable.

SportsVideoGroup is doing an IP showcase today in Miami at the Telemundo Center. Specifics are iffy but it seems like they tried at the time to do everything in ST2110. The vastness or the facility would have required a SDI router the size of 12658x13341. It appears in the background they are using all IP with SDI off ramps connected to 10,000 GbE ports. There’s not much data about it or even a case study other than a very basic powerpoint. Basically they needed to control 13 studios, 7 production control rooms, and over 75 edit suites and they had 9 months to build it.

Only about four to six studios are dedicated to live shows (morning show, a gossip show, a talk show, the news and maybe two sports studios), so that’s why there’s five less control rooms. Aside from sports at most I only see two shows going out live at once. The other studios are likely for Telenovelas which I believe shoot mainly with regular studio cameras and are edited offline.

NBC commissioned their own font for their owned stations division. It doesn’t have a fancy name but is called “Arthouse Owned” internally. You can find the details here at NewscastStudio. It replaces FF DIN which was used on the Look N packages used by their NBC stations and Gotham used by their Telemundo stations.

Now my eye isn’t trained for fonts especially with small differences but here are two images provided to NewscastStudio by Arthouse. First is the old look using FF Din.

And here it is using ArtHouse Owned:

I honestly can’t see the difference there but the lower third looks much clearer.
