I cut a video to the different half hour open to Today and CBS This Morning the day after the Parkland shooting. Today used their special non Olympic opening and was solely shooting news for the first half hour and then had lighter Olympic stuff afterwards. CBS This Morning followed the same pattern. Would anyone be interested in seeing how they handled the shootings?

Edit: I put the video together and it is currently uploading and processing on YouTube. Its a large 1080i file so it will take some time.

Also, you guys should check out this YouTube channel called NewsPartnerships. It’s a channel run by NBC News that promotes much of the affiliate relations between the network and the local station. Usually this involves cross talk, custom teases, set visits. If you have time it’s worth a look around.

Here’s a video of former NBC correspondent, Jacob Rascon, who is now an anchor/reporter at KPRC visiting the Today Show set in PyeongChang.

Jacob was a rising figure at the network but he has four young children under eight (and he’s only 31!) and would only be home about a week or two a month. So when the offer came in to have an anchor/reporter job near his family he took it. I completely understand why he’d turn down an offer to continue a contract as a correspondent. His father Art Rascon, who was a former CBS News correspondent, happens to be a competitor to Jacob and KPRC. Art is an anchor at KTRK - the ABC owned station for their 11 AM and 5&6pm newscasts. So far it appears they’ve only anchored against each other a handful of times. Mike McGuff (who is a media blogger in Houston and gets a lot scoops) said to the Houston Chronicle that he believes Jacob will be the one to replace KPRC’s main anchor Bill Balleza when he retires in 2021.

CAN SOMeone living across the pond post a bit of today’s show with Natalie, Craig and Dylan

I’ll try. I’ve been uploading a lot and with it being the Olympics I’m leery and don’t want to get a bunch of strikes. I’ve already posted two from Today in the past week. Both contain IOC/NBC Olympics content in the opens even though I avoided any direct highlights. I think if I do it I will just do the open and close with a bit of happy talk.

To be honest I don’t remember if they use it regularly now. It could have been brought back because it’s dramatic and fits the mood.

Does anyone know the last time Katy Kay actually anchored World News America because I honestly can’t remember. But MSNBC always announces her as the anchor. *

Sorry for the bad screen capture the Chyron was only up for a second.

Not since 100 Days started I would imagine.

Yeah I was trying to figure out the last time but I honestly don’t remember. WNA has mainly been Laura Trevelyn and Jane O’Brien. Meanwhile Katy has appeared on more and more shows on msnbc like Deadline: White House, The Beat with Ari Melber and The 11th Hour.

As posted in the international presentation thread in the main forum, NBC Today launched a tweaked set today with their return from the Winter Olympics.

That curved screen is gorgeous, there seems to be no noticible joins in the screens and the definition is very nice. Other to that they've added new doors around the now smaller screen area. There's no sign of a sofa, but haven't they been leading a lot from the desk and doing less one on one and group interviews? I imagine a sofa can be placed in front of the curved screen if needed. The only thing I'm not sure on is the Sun logo made of neon style bulbs. A very nice update to the set. As far as I can tell from that video the desk area has changed.

It looks good. They didn’t make a big deal of it even as they used it at first until the second half hour and even then they said they had a little work done.

Edit : With the Olympics over WBAL updated their on air logo used during syndicated and network programming. It’s celebrating their 70th anniversary on air. They signed on 11 March 1948 but was founded and got their license in May 1946. I think it crystallizes nicely.
