Rebranding, graphic updates, set alterations are rare occasions on US news shows. Broadcasters spend long enough sporting their looks until change is really necessary.

But this time, we have a big change. After 10 years in the state of New Jersey, MSNBC moved to "30 Rock" joining NBC News under the same roof in a brand new world headquarters in NYC.

Nightly News is also getting a brand new set and it can viewed across a glass hall from MSNBC - the two newsrooms are connected.

So far, so good - set looks more modern and up to date - very sky-esque.

It look really modern and fresh than what you get here in America. It makes fox news look soooooooooooo dated.
My only problem is the bright light and all the distraction in the back ground. It doesn't look too environmentally friendly. If to look nice is to put on all the monitors at once then it is not worth it.

Nightly News has a new opening sequence.
Set photos below - reminds me of channel 4's set. Brian Williams sits at the corner of desk near the flowers.

You'll be pleased to notice they've taken the vase off the desk. Wink

It's nice I guess, the titles seem very australlian to me. Dunno why.

Watching some of MSNBC over here in the states, the new studios are definitely a step up from the old giant complex the network had. Bright, clean, and the shot over the newsroom area just looks great and give it a real news-y feel, not to mention it fits their graphics a lot better.

You got it right. It looks very aussie like. The desk and the studio space looks European but the graphics look Australian.

The titles are nice, but oh dear, was the camera operator drunk during the headline sequence. Dramatically wobbly shots may be OK for ER and the like, not for your main news programme. Bad (jerky) move by NBC. Simply invest in a cheap Steadicam from as little as $14, or keep the crew off the evening booze.

EDIT:
The v/o intro guy sounds like some 80 year-old hobo with loose-fitting teeth that they found in Central Park (perhaps he doubled and the cameraman too).

I'll watch the rest now!

How do they cover the timezone changes? Do they show Nightly News live? And if so I presume there are two editions - an ET/CT edition and a MT/PT one? Is that correct?

I think it's a ET/CT Edition, then they repeat that in MT, which is then repeated in PT. If there is any breaking news, I think it's updated in the Los Angeles Newsroom.

The announcer is actually more than 80 years old. He's 86 and his name is Howard Reig. He has worked at NBC for over 50 years and has been doing the Nightly News intro since the 70's. His voice is not as good as it used to be, but NBC thrives on its legacy, which is presumably why he has been kept on.

Not sure where you got that idea from..Seven use the same theme tune (different theme) but the graphics are a world apart.

Images from TVNewsroom NZ by the way.
