0900-1000: BBC World News (weekdays)
1000-1100: Newsweek (a new programme - topical show hosted by Andy Marr in which members of the press and VIP guests discuss the week's stories - replacing Dateline London, find that such a boring name for a programme!)
Anyway.......... Jane Hill and Sophie Raworth for the 6 in my opinion - what a winning team...... does anybody know if Sophie is def returning after maternity and do we know if Sian Williams is replacing Kaplinskta on brekkie?
I liked Kaplinsky before she went to do the dancing stuff. She would be better suited to entertainment news; (cf. liquid news). the six HAS to get more serious, and dispose of MR Alagiah. Nothing against him, he just doesnt suit dual presentation. Dermott does.
Hope Sophie returns after Maternity leave, is her baby due at Xmas?, if so maybe she will return in the summer.
Sophie and Jane would be a dream team for the 6 0 clock news, be good to have 2 women reading the news at prime time.
I'm not a huge fan of this rule where one presenter has to be a man and one a woman (we have not seen a same sex pairing since the 6 went to dual anchoring in Jan 03). Huw Edwards and Jon Sopel may work, as well as Sophie and Jane.
Of course, it becomes more likely that we will see more of Jon at six, when he moves to the politics show.
Interesting to see George on the 10 too last night.
Somehow I don't think Sophie will be returning to the six, she will most probably go to the one, which is more suitable for someone bringing up children, as she can work while they are at school (although that situation will be a few years away yet for her). could see her sharing it with Ms Bruce.
Natasha may not move to the six permanantly though, as her contract states that she will present breakfast until March 2007... or so I am lead to believe. Of course, it doesnt mean they can amend it.

I agree with your views on the different sex rule. The only time I recall two same sex presenters presenting was on Breakfast last year with Natasha and Mishal, which was dreadful, and also on a BBC News Special on the London Bombings (7/7/05) with Matthew Amroliwala and Philip Hayton.
I think Jon Sopel would do well on the six all though he is such a strong presenter on N24 he will more than likely stay there as well as doing the Politics Show. Alternatively if Dermot was to move to the six or ten permanently, which we've had speculation about, Jon might then take his place on Breakfast especially when it moves into the N24 studio later this year or February next year (one of the two, I can't remember which).
Also on July 7th, we had the great partnership of Huw Edwards and Jon Sopel on News 24. That seemed to work well. Sky seems to have all-female and all-male partnerships far more often - they must have a different policy on the issue to the BBC.
I see Mark Simpson is doing more reports on the "real" BBC news, having been BBC Norn Irn chief political reporter (or some such job title) for a few years. He's very good, in my opinion.

Yes, after the election he switched from being Ireland Correspondent based in Belfast to one of the BBC's North of England Correspondents based in Manchester IIRC.
