And she was just brilliant - she is one of the Beebs best IMO, can have a laugh, but has something very few female presenters have now - gravitas.
Although I doubt the Beeb would put her on the Six after anouncing that Kaplinsky is to go there.

I think given Jane's many appearances on the One it may well be that she is in line for that post when a vacancy arises.
I agree with other posters here - she's great in the various roles she has undertaken. She can handle breaking news brilliantly on News 24, but also has a sense of humour and lets it show when appropriate. She looks at home on BBC One - warm but also very credible (and she's certainly worked hard - a News 24 presenter from launch, and previously a South Today presenter. No-one can accuse her of not being experienced or having put her hours in)

how about this for a future line-up_
Bill Turnbull, Sian Williams, Darren Jordon and Mishal Husain: the Breakfast Team!
Gavin Esler and Liz Pike: the One o’clock News Team!
Dermot Murnaghan and Jane Hill: the Six o’clock News Team!
Huw Edwards and George Alagiah: the Ten o’clock News Team!
would it work?

I think the Six and the Ten would work with these presenters and I think that Liz Pike would be good on the One. I've never actually seen Gavin Esler and therefore am unable to give my opinion on him. I think that Bill and Sian on Breakfast would work and it would be interesting to have Darren Jordon and Mishal Hussein presenting on a weekend. I don't think though that they'd be much good on the sofa.
If we were to have this lineup, where would Natasha Kaplinsky and Fiona Bruce go?

well, r2ro - natasha kaplinsky would move to bbc news 24 and fiona bruce to newsnight.
here's my line-up for news 24, what do you think, took me ages to get it all together_
0600-0900 Tim Willcox & Joanna Gosling
1000-1300 Peter Levy & Carole Walker (MON-TUES)
Chris Eakin & Kate Silverton (WED-FRI)
1400-1700 Jon Sopel & Louise Minchin (MON-TUES)
Peter Dobbie & Natasha Kaplinsky (WED-FRI)
1800-2100 Simon McCoy & Karin Giannone
2200-0100 Alastair Yates & Maxine Mawhinney (MON-TUES)
Adrian Finighan & Mishal Husain (WED-FRI)
WEEKEND
0600-1000 Martine Dennis
1100-1500 Mike Embley & Anita MacNaught
1600-2000 Chris Lowe & Rachel Schofield
2100-0100 David Robertson & Susanna Reid
PLEASE NOTE
Susanna Reid is currently on maternity leave. On her return, she will swap swifts on a permanent basis with Joanna Gosling. Meaning Susanna Reid from March will be on the 0600-0900 shift with Tim Willcox and Joanna Gosling from March will be on the 2100-0100 shift with David Robertson.
I have put David Robertson from Reporting Scotland on because I feel he has the authority and interaction with the viewers ideal for News 24. Also Martine Dennis, Mike Embley, Anita MacNaught, Adrian Finighan and Look North's Peter Levy have the presenting style ideal for BBC News 24. Comments welcome.

An interesting use of regional presenters couch_potato. I'm not familiar with some of them but now that I actually think about it, Peter Levy probably would be good on N24 with his serious format and then the light-heartedness when talking to other presenters.
I notice that there is a 06.00-09.00 slot so I'm guessing that Breakfast will no longer be simulcast with N24.
Also there are a few gaps in the schedule like 09.00-10.00 on weekdays or 10.00-11.00 weekends. What will these be filled with?
