To be fair, when Darren Jordan left didn't he leave a month after resigning? And we don't know how long the beeb/ kaplinsky/ five have known about Kapinsky's departure, and the way they've publicised it today...
Darren Jordan was a diffrent matter, he didn't go to a direct competitor of the programme he was working on, he was also far lower profile.
According to the reports today she only signed with five 'within the last couple of days'. Such things are co-ordinated, Five wouldn't have announced the transfer until she (or more likely her agent) had told the BBC. So it would seem likely (if she was on air on Thursday but not Friday) that she let the beeb know first thing this (Friday) morning
It wouldn't surprise me if she wasn't allowed back into the building after her notice was handed in. It's not as harsh as that sounds, she'd have known that such a thing would have been a possibility. It has certainly happened with some other newsreaders and presenters in equivalent circumstances.

And journalists working for newspapers and magazines are often not trained as journalists. There isn't any problem, just an excuse to axe someone who no longer fits the beeb's criteria.
On another note, can you imagine Moira Stuart on the 8pm slot...

Very true. But then again can you call five a direct competitor of the beeb different from Al Jazeera to News 24? Obviously they are different but when you think about it Al Jazeera is a competitor of 24, thus they were trying to poach British broadcasters.

Al Jazeera is a direct competitor of BBC World. For Sky viewers it is one of many competitors to News 24 but the content and audience is very diffrent. Darren Jordan wasn't a BBC World or News 24 presenter when he left!
The evening news on Five is a direct competitor to the evening news on BBC1. There is a very big conflict of interest there
(althoguh I've just seen that she was on tonight's Six so most of what I posted is not relevant!)

Breakfast - Bill Turnbull and Sian Williams (Mon-Thu) Charlie Stayt and Susannah Reid (Fri-Sun)
One - Fiona Bruce
Six - Dermot Murnaghan
Ten - Huw Edwards
Cover - George Alagiah
If my sources are correct, you won't be far wrong there.
When you say George is cover, do you mean for the ten? And if so, would that be permanent. And if that's so, would Fiona on the One be permanent?

What a ridiculous Breaking News story.. what next...??
BREAKING NEWS: COW SH*TS IN FIELD.
A Jersey Cow has excreted his bowels in a field near Henley on Thames.
So finally the Kerplunk has left the building.
Her general presenting style came across as so false I wanted to head butt the TV.
*cue* sarky "why didn't you then?" comment
