Whilst I know there are a lot of Natasha fans on here, I'm still going to say that I'm pleased she's moving so I'll never have to watch her ever again on the Six O'Clock News.

As for her replacement, I would like to see this used as an opportunity to revert to single-presentation as well. George could quite easily do the Six on his own. After all, there's no real reason for having two presenters - the One and Ten get away with just one and they're all roughly the same length and complexity (i.e. it isn't like N24 where it is better to have two presenters for when it unexpectadly gets very busy).

If they have to keep the double-headed Six going, then I'd like to see Jane Hill take over. I think Sian is very suited to Breakfast, more so than the other ones who present it from time to time. It's been 10 years now since Jane started on News 24 and I think it's time for her to get a permanent place on BBC1.

Its also being reported Sophie is expecting her third child in February 2008 so that means a replacement is need during her maternity leave. Which will last aleast 8 months therefore there will be a big presenter reshuffle early next year for Breakfast, the one, six and News 24, if Sian is moved (which I think she will be).

i think Sian to the six, Kate Silverton to Breakfast and Louise Minchin and/or Jane Hill to the One. I would be surprised if they bring anyone in from outside, but you never know.

Kirsty Young perhaps?! (Now that she's the Crimewatch presenter).

Well I'm sorry to see Natasha move to Five News as I don't watch it. She had much more scope at BBC. Just watching the 2pm countdown on N24, I suppose they will have to edit her out of that!

Will she be employed by Five or Sky (again)?

Whilst most of you will know that I am a huge fan of Moira Stuart, and a moderate supporter of Natasha Kaplinsky, I still find it bizarre that their respective departures from BBC News was announced live during broadcasts on both BBC1 and BBC News 24!

Whilst I wish both of them the very best in their futures, I cannot help but think it is bad editorial judgement to formally announce these departures during a live news bulletin. I think a formal press release on the BBC website and PERHAPS (emphasis on the "perhaps") a mention on the BBC News website, would have been more than sufficient. But to broadcast the story during a bulletin is a strange decision, IMO.

It further goes to show just how much "celebrity" and lack of seriousness now surrounds television news in the UK and, alas, quite hypocritical in some way, given that Moira Stuart was "dropped" due to her lack of joiurnalistic credibility.

Kaplinsky goes and resigns and the whole of BBC News and BBC TV switches on the spotlights and the sound of trumpets fanfare the news to the world, in amongst stories of Burma, North Korea and the world financial crisis....

What a bizarre decision.

Also, she has signed an exclusive contract that will prevent her from doing any more BBC presenting work.

So there's going to have to be a bit of an edit to the News 24 countdown then.

Really gutted at the news as I've been a five news fan for most of it's time and I would never have thought they would go for someone like her. I wonder if Sky are pleased as they didn't take it too well when she upped off to the BBC. or are they not that interested.

Can't understand the move perhaps her' brilliant career' wasn't going to carry on with nk getting every thing she wanted with the BBC.

The BBC's gain is that I will watch their news again ( if it gets better ) . The potential of her screwing up on their news or other shows has also gone.

It's a blow , I can't believe I won't be able to watch Five News as much as before. I'll never see it but will she, god forbid have another go at reporting.

Sad

Laughing She should hold out for £1.5M.

I'm not Five News or Natasha's biggest fan but (or, for the cynical amongst us, perhaps because of that) I think they're a good fit and she will have the desired effect of boosting the programme's profile.
