God isn't everyone sick of this? Why can't a bloody newsreader do other things with their careers. This 'old school' silent rule that newscasters should stick to their remit and not venture into the world of entertainment is just ridiculous. It's been going on for far too long and it's boring.
So what Natasha hosts SCD, BAFTA's and Eurovision. Mary Nightingale hosted Holiday amongst other things. JIll Dando did a lot of things too.
The media and pundits on the whole just can't stand to see a woman succeed in life. Whatever is what I say. Congratulations to Natasha, she deserves it.

If Natasha wants to do light entertainment then she should think about abondoning her news career.
It may be me, but in this world of dumbing down - I would like to think that journalists live and breathe news. I'm not saying they have to read every paper or be experienced on every single subject but surely if Natasha is galavanting off presenting one night and then doing news the next day, it may impact on her understanding of a story.
It's a lot simpler however if you're just reading the autocue and interviews are nicely arranged so the questions are either obvious or already written for the journalist. Let's face it - it's why Natasha is on Breakfast...it's a lightweight news programme. Not tabloid but it doesn't hold the same gravitas as any other news bulletin during the day.
I know people have to have lives and I'm just young and inexperienced but I'd like to think a few people would be holding the standards up. I actually start shouting out at my radio and TV when I just hear a proposterous story. It infuriates me when they see fit to abuse the vital airtime they have with total carp. And I'm not talking about fishing features here.
Hmph.

Not to mention hosting New Year Live, making appearances in My Hero etc. It's the fact that she's on every other programme that makes her annoying. She's the BBC equvilent of Jimmy Carr. It's as if, if there's any new one off programmes that don't already have a presenter then she does it!

If the award was titled Most Popular Newscaster - I would have no problems in Natasha winning this award. She has, supposedly, won this award based on her news presenting abilities and NOT all the other work she has done in the last year!!!
BUT
When you get Alastair Stewart winning 'Presenter of the Year' it puts her award into perspective and then we can question the suitablility of this award!
I like her and think she should now move away from news and further into the light ents area!

I agree with Isonstine that a newsreader should be a journalist and nothing more.
Natasha has made herself well known on Strictly Come Dancing etc, and it is much harder to take her seriously now on Breakfast. I liked her at first, but she is beginning to try my patience, I cannot stand it when the same person keeps presenting everything!
Sometimes it can be quite good for them to present another progoramme, such as Sophie Raworth and judgemental, it was on in the daytime, and only for a short time, and she made sure that she was still better known for being the presenter of Breakfast. Dermot Murnaghan did it too with Treasure Hunt.
It is just a shame when newsreaders turn into this!

Natasha's the face of the moment. She appeals to men & women. Bfast isn't just about the news its about ratings too and Natasha pulls them in - i only started watching as i like her presenting style - if Natasha's not on i won't watch - exception being Sian. As for her presenting other stuff - why not? Like it or not she's popular and unoffensive, i actually think there are a couple of jobs she shouldn't have agreed to do ie, New Years Eve. And, no matter what anyone says she did a real good job doing the Royal Variety Performance - that is a huge event and she didn't have a hint of nerves and carried it off.
If there was enough presenting work, i do think Natasha might seriously consider quitting breakfast but as it stands there's only the odd presenting project here and there so not enough for her to give up the financial security of her breakfast contract. I'd love to see her doing a couple of holiday reports and serious social/economic documentary reporting -bet she would aswell - she's got the best voice in the BBC IMHO and should have also won an award for that.
