why is itv talking about him in the past tense?

also bbc hasn't reported anything about it yet. Is there some sort of protocol kicking in here at the Beeb?

Why in the blue hell do you keep asking for TV captures in every thread.

So strange ITV NC and Sky are reporting this but N24 hasn't yet.

Is it because it isn't confirmed as Robin Cook by the police. BBC Scotland however reported it in Reporting Scotland, has no one told them of the new guidelines?

The new guidelines suck if it's a hutton thing, Surely they could say unconfirmed reports etc.

BBC breaking it now at 17:55 (about what an hour late?)

finally reported by the BBC , one hour later than sky

They have explained the reason for the delay - they say there wasn't a quotable source. However, itv said they had a police statement 30mins ago, though this didn't name the casualty. I think its fair they reported this later, as they do go for accuracy

What nonsense; it smacks of complete arrogance from the BBC.

ITN and Sky are two reputable news organisations - whether the BBC likes to spin to the contrary is regardless - and if it has such a problem with finding a source then why don't they have the balls to put up a flash saying 'Sky/ITN report...'

Clearly the other two networks felt they had sufficient information to go on the story, with Sky even saying where and when it happened, what time the coastguard call went in, etc.

What have they been doing for the past hour? Sitting on their hands and saying ''oh, we daren't tell the poor viewers about this, they're so fragile''. Come off it, please.

I think it's called post-Hutton syndrom.

The BBC needs to have a reputable source before it breaks a serious news story like this.

Sky can run on heresay, because when it gets things wrong people just say "oh it's only sky".

If the BBC got a story like this wrong it would be crucified in the press. It has a reputation to lose unlike sky

Oh, what nonsense, Marcus.

I agree that the BBC's reputation is ''above'' that of Sky's - though from memory Sky is now running at number 2 in the trust steaks, and if its growth continued at the rate it is then it would apparently over take the BBC in two years (I read that on Gateway, Marcus, so it MUST be true) - but, like I say, if they have such a problem then why not quote ITN and Sky.

They look for two reputable news outlets, and whether you like to claim otherwise, ITN and Sky are well respected and trustworthy outlets. And, should they be wrong, the BBC can always have a little dig - which it dearly loves to do - by reporting how its rivals messed up and they were only quoting them.

They're a scared news organisation these days, which is sad to see.
