If she was that good (not saying she isint) then wouldnt more people talk about her, know her. She's never been the face of BBC News has she?

Are you kidding? I know dozens and dozens of people who know of Moira Stuart. In her career, she has presented just about every bulletin the BBC have invented and until 1999 was on regularly each week on the Six O'Clock News and Weekend News. Where have you been for the past 20 years? Shocked The only reason people don't talk about her anymore is because the BBC took her off people's screens.

Well the news of Moira's departure has hit these shores here. The primetime "Drivetime" show here on Emirates Radio 2 has just featured the news of Moira's "disappearance" due to "not fitting in with the current structure of the operations - disguising the BBC real intent of being too old", according to the radio presenter.

Wow, I never thought foreign countries would cover this story. I know Moira is well-known here in the UK, but to my knowledge she has never presented on BBC WSTV/World, so how come she is known of in the UAE? It just goes to show how popular Moira is.

Mainly because Brits make up the majority of the ex-pat community here in Dubai and all Brits of a certain age - generally - will know who Moira Stuart is, I guess.

After further listening, the radio jock I think is also a former BBC man, and he knows Moira personally.

Yeah BBC World - I am not surprised at this at all.

A tremendous shame. Moira was one of the best, if not the best, newsreaders that the BBC had and it seems a silly idea to remove her when she has such an authoritative presentation style and is well known across the country who probably couldn't name any other newsreader. I personally would have liked to see her on Breakfast as the main presenter, especially with the 'newsier' format, as she showed that she was informative and authoritative yet could have a laugh.

Sadly, the BBC have made their (wrong) decision and I somehow don't think they'll change their mind.

Perhaps Moira could be a newsreader - or even a female anchor - on The One Show when it returns in the summer...
:-(
A former member
she could end up on FIVE news?

Does she have the personality to cope woth that kind of tabloidy show, though? She's far too intellectual and classy for ''The One Show'' and would be totally wasted on it (and Five News).

But what if The One Show became more Nationwide -esque?

Moira Stuart did, in fact, perform such a role on the successor to Nationwide, Sixty Minutes, where she would present the news segment of the programme at 5:40.

That was the only good part of the programme though.
