It's hard really - I dont think Moira should be on those slots - but I think the headlines (which they are) should be read by Andrew/ Jon instead of a seperate newsreader - like on Breakfast! I would like to see Moira attempt a slot on News 24 (try it out), maybe the five o'clock. The problem with that is it was meant to be analyisis and in-depth but I can't tell the difference between that and Jon and Louise before (except an anchor who still feels like he's making it all up as he goes along to me! Rolling Eyes ) Why not give Moira a try on that!

Moira presented News 24 during the flags era, so she knows what she's doing.

b) The argument used is entirely nonsense - he speaks of more versatile journalists being used to front the news, rather than just a "reader". The Sunday AM slot is purely that, i.e. reading the news. The short news slot does not contain any two way interviews or any other rolling breaking news scenarios, cited as the reasons why Moira Stuart's style no longer befits current TV news. Do any of the other presenters who read the news on Sunday AM do it any differently than Moira did during the five minutes it lasts?????

But surely that is the point...there is no need to employ an extra newsreader, just to do some headlines, with nothing much else involved, when you can have someone doing that slot, that has either done Breakfast, or is going to do a later News 24 slot?!

I agree that the BBC have made a dog's dinner of this affair.
Moira will always be a much loved legend - even if the BBC has fallen out of love with her.
I really feel for her, as she has kept things to herself, while her bosses have crapped all over her yet again.
I think Moira should now leave the BBC and try other projects with other channels. This lady has dignity aplenty and deserves much better treatment.

How did she do in that era? The presenting style was a lot more relaxed, and I think she'd be completely at home doing News 24 in the current, more formal format.

Moira did News 24 Breakfast for a short period before the current Breakfast started. It was a service that was basically the same half hour repeated so mainly just Newsreading. She was on with someone like Chris Eakin/David Robertson who tended to do the interviews.

Maybe she could move to GMTV, they employ many newsreaders to just read the news. Although her style is quite serious, I'm sure she could manage a bit of banter at the end of the bulletin.

I think she's a little too upmarket for GMTV

No, Moira would bring far too much gravitas to GMTV. Perhaps if News at Ten is revived (which it won't be) then ITN will offer her a job.

The excuses from the BBC were pathetic - mainly because it comes across as nothing but a lie.

The situation is nothing to do with the BBC's policy on newsreaders or journalists - it's a simple case of it not being sustainable to have a presenter on a shift which basically involves reading a short 5 minute bulletin every Sunday.

Do you think more people would understand if the BBC said Moira's been dropped because it's pointless employing someone just to read a five minute blletin? They have got a point...

True I agree with your point about efficiencies etc - but Moira is on staff so they should find her more work/shifts. It's even less efficient now as she's basically being paid a full salary for doing nothing whilst this messy row continues. It would have been much more sensible to have continued with the status quo until alternative plans were finalised and agreed rather than have this terrible puclic row which leaves her in a very uncomfortable position. Who'd want to go back after all this?!

have the bbc decided whats happening with her yet
