Just saw a story on Sky News that seemed like an April Fools joke.

Firstly, the subject matter. Its basically a lost dog story. An elderly man with memory loss (where have I heard that before - FAKE!!!!) is taken to hospital. When he starts to get his memory back, he remembers that he left his dog in a car with no food or water somewhere in King's Lynn. I'm sure many dogs go missing every week. I wonder why they featured this one. Could this be the 'Little Maddy' of the dog world?

Another strange thing is the number plate of the car. Its K900 OAP. An elderly man (an OAP?) loses his dog (a K9?).
FAKE!!!!!!1

Maybe Sky are covering this story because if the dog is found it will make a nice Christmas story. Maybe they wouldn't give it any/so much coverage at another time of the year. The dogs name is cracker.
FAKE!!!!!!1

If you have seen the dog or have any more information, you are asked to call the RSPCA on 0300 123 4999.
FAKE!!!!!!!!11

Its obviously a real story, but I just thought it was strange as I've never seen a story with such unlikely details before.

I very much doubt if the 0300 number is a fake.

0300 numbers are the new ones to replace 0845 and 0870 numbers, which have now been re-classified as premium rate.

Calls to 03 series numbers MUST cost the same as 01 and 02 numbers and be included in the same free call packages as 01 and 02 numbers.

The number is real enough but surely not even Sky can be seriously believing this story?

You can buy every single number plate from J900 OAP to Y900 OAP on several numberplate websites, except K900 OAP which is mysteriously missing. The '900' series aren't issued as regular car numberplates, they're only on special numberplate sites like that, ditto numbers like 500, 444, and 1 to 20 (as in 'N3 EWS').

I think the RSPCA have concocted the story, bought the numberplate, and are waiting for a passer-by to 'come across' the car, 'find' the 'missing dog' and then find out that it's all a ruse but get paid some money by them and then get themselves on TV and in all the newspapers just in time for Christmas.

The big question is, will Look North 'Ull fall for the bait?

Thank you for missing the point.

Phone number classification.... thats a fairly interesting business....

I remember my *very* old mobile number changing from 040*** to 0770*** a few years ago.

Basically as I understand it:-
01 = Standard Landlines
02 = Standard Landlines in London/Coventry etc.
03 = National Standard Rate lines
04 = ?
05 = ?
06 = ?
07 = Mobile Lines
08 = Premium Lines
09 = ?

118 = Directory Inquiries

If anyone could enlighten me on 04/05/06/09 or any other prefix I would be grateful.

In the morning I might not give a toss, but Its almost 11 and I have had a few.

0500 is another Freephone one but I'm not aware what the difference is.

Well I can't believe Sky News are actually covering a story about a lost dog....actually...second thoughts...I can.

That just about sums up the year for me.
