Incredible story and incredible television. I am sure many of us had lumps in our throats at various stages of the coverage. And thrilled to learn that the President specifically asked to be interviewed by "BBC Tim".

Tim - you did a sterling job and are most deserving of the commendations heaped on you from the correspondents and members on this forum, not to mention those comments of your media colleagues online and throughout the "live broadcasts". We will be starting a campaign on Twitter to ensure that your desk at BBC News is decorated in Chilean flags for your return. I am sure a standing ovation awaits you back at BBC World News!

For me, this entire story and the news coverage serves to remind me why we are all television news fanatics!

Awesome.

Edit: When the Chilean President visits Europe later in the month, I hope "BBC Tim" will get the chance to conduct a longer and more detailed interview with him. Perhaps a "HardTalk", or similar.

Well Oscars coverage is always over the top by all broadcasters in my opinion - so no great loss is that loses out

Not Tim, though, but an interesting interview. One gets the sense that this gentleman is enjoying the kudos attached to "throwing all [my government's] resources towards a rescue". Quite right too.

Now he'll meet the Queen, and as an unfortunate by-product, also David Cameron.

Couldn't agree with that more.

The footage of the Chilian President desperately trying to get off the phone when Cameron rang him during the rescue was quite amusing. "Yes David. Thank you for you kind words"... "I shall have tea with you, thank you", "Thank you David", "Thank you", "Good bye David". Almost imagined him to start going "swhoosh crackle... uhm David I think we have a bad line".

.....and by all accounts on Twitter, the above did actually happen, when Tim returned to the newsroom a couple of hours ago.

Well done that man.

I just saw BBC World News airing Panorama about one of the Chilean Miners...
I wonder if BBC is one of those networks who want to pay the miners for the story. Confused
