Does anyone know how the bbc are doing the coverage as such, are World News and the News channel simulcasting one or the other or are the running separately. Would think it would make sense for one of the outlets to broadcast on both to save gallery staff, pull resources and not have to fight each other for Tim and Matt in Chile.

According to Tim they are simulcasting "around the world".
I know Rachel Schofield and Simon McCoy were talking earlier, I gather from N6... does that mean World News are using Rachel and Simon... I take it the N6 gallery is in use and world news are getting the generic 'bbc news' channel titles?
I've just tuned in to hear Tim Willcox endlessly filling. He's just mentioned that the big screen on the side of the mountain is showing BBC World, and the miners' families were cheering at them for showing one of their pictures.
They're talking to a guest in London now, but as they're not in vision, it's possible they're even in a voice booth somewhere.
They have been able to watch television, send these pictures back and talk to their relatives. They must have some kind of data connection, maybe they just chucked an ethernet cable down there.
Getting the cables down there to watch telly is all very well.... but how did they get a TV/screen/computer down there?
Not a regular viewer of the BBC NC but I have also been very impressed by Tim Wilcox, he did very well to keep the coverage together last night. Over on Sky Robert Nisbet is doing a really solid job at presenting Sky's coverage this morning.
Quite amusing to see the BBC put up a miners rescued graphic aswell, presumably it won't receive the same criticism that Sky's did.

during overnight broadcast, BBC News Channel is the initial broadcaster and the BBC World News DOG is just superimposed.
but now, I think they are operating seperately, since the BBC WN DOG that is being used now is not the same DOG that has been used earlier.

I think they sent down one of those small microprojectors that are the size of a packet of cigarettes.
The way these simulcasts are normally handled is that one gallery is master - and handles comms to the presenters and reporters, and does any two-ways with other outside sources (like Rajesh). A reporter can only hear sound from one gallery usually.
The other gallery will be able to get a clean feed of the master gallery's output (so they can add their own graphics - ticker, dog, clock etc.) and will probably also have the same outside sources available (though no comms to them) so that they can mix to them clean to get in and out if they need to.
One thing that sometimes happens is that there is a top of the hour generic cue to the reporter (from one gallery), who does a generic intro and top headline (which both galleries would take cleanly), then the two galleries split away for other headlines, and then both throw back to the reporter at an agreed clock time, when again the reporter picks up generically. One gallery is then master for the coverage (though that doesn't stop the other mixing away to other sources), and then they may hand back generically at the end. That's not the case this time - as the entire coverage is anchored from Chile, but it is often the case when there is a big story, but when it isn't the only story either network is covering.
Overnight there is likely to be only one gallery in operation (as usual) - but during the day there could be two - or three. (Breakfast and the Six O'Clock News coming from the third studio/gallery)
