So they are sending the first miner up now - made sense, no point in delaying to allow it to return empty to the surface again. This feed is brilliant, but how is it working exactly? Seems to be streaming on the internet, but surely they don't have internet access down there?

I think there's a USB cable or something running down the supply chute.

They have been able to watch television, send these pictures back and talk to their relatives. They must have some kind of data connection, maybe they just chucked an ethernet cable down there. It is odd that it takes only a few minutes for the capsule to get to the miners. They were trapped literally a few minutes away. So near and yet so far.

BBC Two just cut away to show schools programmes.

BBC One are showing the News Channel early (wasn't due until 04:35)

Yep, simulcast on both BBC One and BBC Two for a while there, then a quick ticker saying: "Coverage continues on BBC One". I take it that would have been a separate feed, and therefore not shown on BBC World etc.

Very true - hadn't remembered that.

Indeed. At least this story will (hopefully) end miraculously. So rare.

I thought we weren't going to see the miners reaching the top?

Is this rescue going to go on all night (and for the next 48 odd hours) in Copiapo, or are they going to take a break at some point?

Here we go...

They covered the hole with a flag, [some of] the media booed and they removed the flag.

He's got a very annoying grin hasn't he?

BBC aston is blocking the hole.
